Hiya,

I'm just curious to know, what's the point in banning users when they come back the next day on a new account and nothing is done about it (Earthquake, Distad) etc etc.

Surely the point of a ban is to rid them of the forum for a certain amount of time due to them breaking the rules.

Ta for reading.
Aight.

I am banned on Dentafrice and I am back on this.

Sometimes bans are a bit harsh, and some admins agree to that, but some other admins are too stuck up to remove the ban :)

I've been thinking about this for a while, because if they just allow them to create another account, it can let them just keep on being rambunctious.

True, not much you can do though?

Alot of good forum members have gotten banned.

Mentor is one of them.
Some bands are stupid like i got one for being anti habbox, no where in the rules can i see that as a rule (when i got banned).
And DJ-3000 got banned for avoiding the filter, how many users have avoided the filter and got off with a caution?

They should use IP bans....

And have being banned just an extreme punishment.

Well I wish somebody would really look kindly on this and have a kind of
amnesty to forget the past because you had a really great account for years :(

Well my friend the forum can IP ban the user that means their internet will not be able to acess HabboxForum or they can ban the e-mail adress so that e-mail can not be used to sign up again or they can just ban the username like Moderators usually do :)

The problem with IP addresses is that they do switch between computers. I remember when someone got an IP ban it banned most of the city (who shared his IP address).

A machine ban would be better if we were banning computers from accessing the forum, but no such feature exists for vbulletin.

I agree with the thread starter. It is obvious that these people come back on new accounts, usually because they make it clear that they are the banned user, yet admins choose to do nothing. Surely that undermines the point of a ban?

@Josh: Even if there wasnt a feature to physically stop that person from returning, surely letting them return on another account is going against the point of a ban? Surely it cant be too hard to just keep banning the user until he/she has had enough?

Becuase, when they return. They usually behave on another account as they know they will just constantly be banned. So alot of the time they come back on another account and don't cause major trouble.

Isnt that the job of infractions, to warn them that theyve done bad things and not to do it again? As far as I, and many forum members are concerned, a ban means that forum member has proved that they cannot behave on the forum and the admins don't want them around any more

And a year ago, it wasnt allowed to create a new account, but Seacat changed that rule.

I am amazed I haven't been banned... There is no way to stop someone coming on a forum. Cookies, e-mails and IPs can easily be removed or changed and machine banning may cause problems for users who have family which may be the exact opposite as the member previously banned. There is always a downside.

@Alex, im not saying that users should be allowed, I personally think they should be banned again, however it's not my decision to let them back.

But then again, I am a firm believer in second chances, so maybe let them back once and see how they go, if you blow a second chance then keep banning.

The point in banning = Loosing your account not that your removed from the whole habboxforum. And I haven't exactly come onto the forum breaking every rule I have, I've actully come back and tryed to get my reputation back, but seems I cant due to alot of people holding onto the past, Come on, we only live once.

Dentafrice,

yeah. because i think they were losing alot of members? in december 05, there was like a bit of a "revolt" in spam and that, and loads of us got banned. and then when we went on another account that got banned & so on, so forth.
in the end none of us could be bothered to keep registering so we all left, but then we came back about 5 months later.

Yep, Josh is right about the IP problem, but only if we could ban a machine!
Also, some people have dynamic IPs which changes everytime their internet connection is reset.

Thats not the point of a ban though.
That's a fresh start, if you've been banned, why should you have a
fresh start with no marks against your name?

No, the point in banning = GONE, KABOOM, BYE!
What you are talking about, is what i said above , giving someone a fresh start.
And if you've done something to be banned, why do you deserve a fresh start?

Dentafrice,

@Alex who said surely it's not hard just to keep banning the person if they came back.

You would be suprised how much work has to go into a ban, so it's not that simple. (Yes, it takes 1 second to hit the ban button but the amount of things you have to do afterwards is what I'm talking about)
