Is it true that the legal driving age is going to be increased from 17 to 18? If so that's well annoyed me. I'm 13 and wanna start driving lessons asap!

Can't see the difference that a year will make to be honest.. if they are going to raise it, they might aswell make it 21 or whatever.

They're thinking of it, and it solves nothing.

18 years olds are just as bad, and the only real rule is that you cannot drive with people between the age of 12-20 or something, which is stupid anyway. They're just asking for people to be trouble really.

Also, when you are 17 you have college (well, the majority do) but when you are 18, you have ages to much about, so that's one small reason not to.

it's not that much better than the UK, with your permit you can't really do anything anyway.

Yeah they are considering it. The law also puts on lots of other restrictions too, that are really stupid and contradictory of other government policies. For example, there are times (if you are under a certain age) that you are not allowed to carry passengers in your car. Of course, isn't this discouraging car sharing?! Which the government says you should do to prevent too much pollution from our cars.

pfft.

I dislike this country muchly at the moment. I was discussing with a woman at my church (not religious btw) that they may aswell scrap most the rules, suffer 3 years of hell then when people realise how boring they are now, peace will be restored. Rules are there and people live by them being broken. Chavs probably exist because of this. They wish to rebel.

I think it's good that they'll raise the driving age because a lot of teens are immature & when they have nothing to do they turn dumb. Seriously. It's better we keep them off the road till they understand how to be mature. Also, teens who drop out shouldn't be able to drive until education is finished.

I think the driving age to drive alone has been changed here like 18. But you can get your driver's license at 16, like I have but you must drive with an adult. I'm not sure if the 18 thing is true but I've heard they want to change it so... yeah. Some people are saying even 19 or 20 but what happens when you're 18, in college & need to go places. You have to take a bus? Most college students are broke considering tuition, etc. So, yeah.

this is all crazy, of all the friends I have (most are 16) who drive, i'd say a SMALL part of them drive irresponsibly, as older people do to.

well it's impossible to deny that 16 & 17 year olds drive more irresponsibly than adults. and 13 is way, way, way too young to start driving, sorry.

18 year olds are worse "/ They have more free time because college (or equivilent) has ended and you now have a long summer holiday which means more playing about until uni (if you go). 17 is a good age to learn, you're busy with learning for a start. Learning at 18 is just as bad as learning at 17, even though I only hear of 18 year olds crashing their cars.

well here in the U.S., 16 is the driving age, and the number of fatal accidents per age goes down from there until about the mid-40's. maybe its different over there for you guys? idk.

Ah I forgot about you living in the US lol. 17 is pretty good to begin, but 18 is just alot of hassle for people going to Uni etc. Other than that, the driving maturity ages are pretty much the same.

It's because us "teenage yobs" may go and steal a car or something like that.

I'm getting really peed off with all this discrimination that is going on.

GommeInc

18 year olds can steal a car and more 18 year olds probably steal cars than 17 year olds anyway. Considering you must be either damaged in the head or under alcohol, which is legal to driink in public from 18 years old and onward.

i know people who could steal cars when they were 14 :S what does it matter people need no liscence to drive on the road. most accidents happen with teens anyways because of there lack of judgement and there need for speed.

that sucks :( i once read a sign thingy on a diving instructor's car that you ca do on board training from the age of 12 :s which i think is just blasting around a car park till your dizzy. There should be an upper age limit to driving tbh. i can say ive nearly been mowed down by more old people than i have young people.

Sorry to bump, but I didn't see the point in a new thread.
Some guys in my class (who aren't exactly the most gifted with common sense or maturity) were saying that it's recently been upped to 18. Has it?
