I noticed it at the top of the Billboard 100 a few weeks back but never bothered to listen to it. I downloaded it today though and... wow. This is one of the most beautifully written song's I've heard in a long time.

I take my hat off to the Plain White T's.

eh. im all for guy-with-acoustic guitar songs, but this one bothers me. it doesnt seem honest. he doesnt pace himself. it sounds like he's struggling to just get the song over with from beginning to end. there are so many pretty acoustic songs out there, im kinda upset this is the one to get to the billboard #1.

and apparently this song is over 2 years old. but since they got on a major label, they re-released it and now its really popular.

Really? I actually liked all the enjambement and run-on lines; it made the song more interesting than your standard Verse-Pause-Bridge-Pause-Chorus song.

What I really admired more than anything was just the story of the song. The sentiment and the lyrics were beautiful.

i didnt like the lyrics at all really. "tonight you look so pretty"? its like he has no imagination. anyone can say "hey, sunsets are really beautiful" but why would you? it leaves nothing to the listener. what you really should do is portray what you really think of beauty in feeling, tone and imagination. "you look so pretty" is just too easy and dull for me. thats the line that bothered me most.

but if you like the song, by all means listen to it.

i wish alot of artists could read what you posted.

i knew i'd heard the song a long time ago! i was wondering why all of a sudden it because so popular.

yeah, i like it, its good i think. i liked it more before it was popular, but now its on the radio so much. overplayed.

im actually the opposite. most of the time, i could care less about lyrics as long as the song sounds good. but in acoustic songs, where you can hear them speak clearly, they matter much much more. and hey there delilah just seems lazy to me.

i'm not unappreciative of acoustic, but they have to be subtle. good riddance by green day is obviously a classic acoustic. people don't really realize that when he keeps messing up and cursing in the beginning its supposed to be comic relief. elliott smith was basically the king of guy-and-his-guitar songs. but my favorite acoustic song ever is 'i felt your shape' by the microphones <3

haha, people don't know that? what the hell do they think is going on then? they could have edited it out.

i usually don't listen to lyrics either, but brand new is one band i can usually count on for having great songs with equally great lyrics.

people think its just one of green day's cliches, as they do random sounds and stuff on albums all the time. or just as a segue. but apparently billy felt uncomfortable with the song and didnt want it too serious.

it irritates me when people dislike bands because they are "mainstream"

who cares...

and I like this, i've liked since the first time I heard it!

am i the only person who would prefer it if bands i listened to were popular? i'd like a bunch of people to talk about music with :/ but no one's heard of half of what i listen to.

yeah same.

reminds me of 'cupids chokehold' with the whole song-i-used-to-like-years-ago-just-got-popular thing. i know it's stupid, but i don't like the fact it's popular. that's just how i am.
