The swear words are in the english dictionairy, its part of the english language. please why cant we swear? Maybe we should be able to swear if we are not aiming at the person but maybe if we aim a swear word we get infractioned/warned

So like example:

Ermmm Lets say I call Xavier a ****** I would get an infraction

Now if I say, Oh for **** sake I can't stand Xavier = No infraction or warning?

DONT INFRACTION ME ITS JUST AN IDEA :'(

These forums are for children and teenagers and there parents do not allow them to swear.

I would agree with you.. but on that basis I can't. Was a good idea though.

Its completely out of text. Other users find it very rude and will complain.. so it's pointless.

Why do you want to swear anyway? It's just "***"" replacing the word. Im sure many people know what you are trying to say for an example:

I am so ******* annoyed..

I ******* hate you.

It's like you talk out of your ***.

Why don't you just **** off?

See what I am saying earthquake? I doubt it will be allowed.

so why debate we shouldnt allow this rule. its part of the english language, u get swear words 24/7 on tv, 24/7 on games, Jesus u even get it alot on habbo so why not just let this be.

because, perhaps, not all of us want to read a forum with f this and f that.
gets me? it makes the whole atmosphere nicer. i do belive the filter should be relaxed, for example if you go on habmate, they have a less strict filter & its still a good atmosphere.
get rid of the filter together & i sincerely believe it'd be vile.

i think if you're stressed like "**** this" or what ever is okay. but if it's aimed at someone it should be punished.

I'm sorry, but I truly cannot see any reason why this would be remotely useful to anyone.

Firstly, swearing isn't big and clever, and I think nearly everyone can get there point across to others without cursing and blinding. It doesn't add anything to the conversation your having, it just lowers the tone.

Secondly, not every parent is going to be happy to have there child visiting a site which is riddled with bad language. There is just no need. Some parents do watch there kids on the Internet, and those parents are going to be a bit put off if they see swearing.

Thirdly, it will make life harder for the moderation team. Our job is stressful enough already, without having to decide what swearing is directed at a person and what swearing is just a general comment.

Actually it doesn't, you just have an option to turn off the bobba filter. Habbox could make a forum which has no word filter (but is hidden away when you have it turned on) or have it optional for the whole board.

I personally don't see the reason in allowing swearing, it means talking to people would be like talking to a hyaena who has just learnt swearing and laughs at it all the time or they'll just swear and have a hissy fit if you disagree or make fun of them.

Thats childish talk.

Parents swear. Infact i don't think i know a single person who don't swear. This forums aimed at teenagers+ and correct me if im wrong but teenagers use "Naughty words" frequently. Parents wouldnt watch kids what their on 24/7 and be bothered by seeing a few swear words, i think they'd be more bothered about seeing naked women on their browsers than a forum full of teens talking with the odd mild language. Perhaps it would make life a bit hard for moderators but oh well. At least theyll be infracting for a decent reason if someone was actually being abusive.

GommeInc
08-08-2007, 12:18 PM
I think to save this argument would be to just make it optional. Obviously when someone joins it is turned on (the filter) but you can go to your control panel and turn it off. Some people don't wish to see swearing and when I think about it, I really would not care, unless some twit decides it would be fun to swear like crazy in an argument or have a swearing hissy fit and make no sense.

i agree with beth, the filter should be relaxed alot. i don't see the point in removing it completely because there's too many immature douchebags on this forum who'd just abuse it. about being able to have the filter on or not, management always so no coz it'd involve hacks ect.

This comes around every so often. The main reason is that this Forum is used by minors aswell as older teens. And we want the forum to stay clean. If we said right ok, you can swear. Every thread would be flooded with swearing just for the sake of it. And yes people do swear, but it's not nice to hear or read at all really.

---MAD---
08-08-2007, 03:27 PM
Its not necessarily just the fact parents would see the swearing etc. The point is you can make a post / thread / discussion without having to swear at all making the forum more friendly for visitors and members a like.

Yes but on Habbo, your chat disappears after a few seconds. On the forum, it stays for all visitors and members to read forever.

Forum is for discussion with many people not only a group of friends.

I think we should be allowed to swear, it is useful sometimes

Also everybody 10+ swears or knows swear words so you cant say it is harmful to younger members

Also you are kids/teens like the rest of us, not our parents, you are here to make the forum better for the community (us) so really if enough people vote for it to be allowed you should change the rule.

,Jess,
08-08-2007, 09:57 PM
I think that yes a lot of people swear but there are still some people that don't swear much and wouldn't like seeing swearing everywhere.

Tbh if I came onto the forum as a person who had never been on it before and saw swearing all over it I wouldn't really want to join..

I think the whole atmosphere of the forum is better with the filter and without swearing.

PigsNose

I am not going to agree or disagree on this argument but I have a suggestion. Maybe the person who makes the thread can choose if you are allowed to swear or not. Like a little icon on the side of the thread saying that swearing is permitted or something. So the younger ones can see they shouldn't go on that thread. It is just a thought but tbh I think, what is the point in swearing? You can see the point getting across with the stars like the other person said.

Oh for ***** sake. See, you can see what I just said without the swearing being unblocked. There is no need to be so common or whatever, just because you want to swear. What the hell is the point in swearing in a forum, what pleasure does it give you saying one little word? Geez just get on with your life! Find an 'older' forum if you want to swear about :l

Quite simple. There are many reasons. One, there are minors on this forum, and believe it or not *some* people haven't heard the words.

Additionally, the words are often used in derogatory meaning, and the line would have to be drawn by judgement, hence creating neverending debate between mods and users. The real beauty of the current rule is that there's no way to argue bias, because its clear cut.

It also has to do with the maturity of the forum. The ability of some of the members to get into a seriously terrible mud-slinging argument never ceases to amaze me. If I were to call 75% of members on here a bad word, or use it in connection with them in any way, they would respond with a barrage of insults and perhaps a few "Your Mom" jokes for good measure.

There's also the fact that we have a social responsibility if not a legal one to shield our users from undesirable content. I'm sure you guys don't want to visit the spam forum to see

"So listen up all you ****** ****ers, I got a ****in story to tell, so sit down, listen, and shut your ****in mouths."

(The Spam Forum was merely an example, whether they would actually become like that is, I won't say unlikely, but perhaps up for debate :eusa_whis)

Look, just because you learned it before you were five does *not* mean others did. I know of people in my grade (and I assure you, I am a fair bit older than 5) who don't know *certain* curse words. I myself was exposed to different curse words upon my arrival to Habbox, but that was moreso because they were more used in British conversation.

I'm actually quite dissapointed, *Americans* are supposed to be the ones oblivious to the world around them and thinking the way they grew up is the way everyone else grew up. I'm saddened to see the disease has touched the Brits as well :( [That was more a dig at Americans than a dig at Eamonn btw :P]

And what about members who don't want to see swearing on a board particuarly the F word? This is a forum for children/teens. Wanna swear like that go and sign up to a forum that allows it. On Habbo it is different because the language is transient and disappears off the top of the screen in a minute. What is the attraction anyway?

The swear words are in the english dictionairy, its part of the english language.

Responding to this, yes they may be in the English dictionary but then why would they block them out from tv?

I really couldn't care less if you could swear on the forums or not but maybe an option to block the filter or not kind of like habbo since people seem to be so bothered at the fact that they can't say **** =)

The words you picked were some of the worst and definitely won't be unfiltered.

One of the primary problems with the filter is that we can't just turn it off for certain people and on for others ;)
