'Cause the board have 'lost confidence' in him.. :S
He has obviously done something behind the scenes to get himself sacked.. Gregg Abbot has been installed as caretaker manager for the time being.
Gerrard Houllier/Paul Jewell/Fabio Capello anyone? :P

What an absolute joke. After one game! As you said Jamie, something must have happened like because you can't "lose confidence" after one game.
I mean for god's sake, this leaves us in a horrible position now.
Neil Warnock ftw lol :P

The worst thing possible just about
He was an ok manager. Not as good as Simpson was, but finishing 8th in your first ever season as a manger ain't too shabby :).
EDIT: Sorry for double post. I just forgot , plus I had to put the quote in.

It's a bad thing, although he did make some odd decisions at times.. but it could turn out being a good thing once we find out what he has actually done to deserve being sacked ;)
Rumours are, that it's something to do with the Garner transfer..

Another statement on our official website that it'll have no effect on the Garner transfer and the decision is not a 'knee jerk' reaction or part of any disciplinary action. But you know fine well that it is

Maybe Big Fred had a bet on Neil McDonald being the first manager sacked this season.. and has used his winnings to fund the £140k transfer of Joe Garner?
Or..
Neil McDonald has been bonking Big Freds wife?
:D

The LMA have said this on the matter:
“To issue a statement on the club website stating that the Board of the club has lost confidence in the manager, just two days into the new season defies belief and lacks credibility.
“Last season Neil lead the club to an excellent eighth place on their return to League One. Only last week, a new player was signed for a six figure fee and yet now the club claim that they have lost confidence in him.
“Once again deplorable incidents such as this, damage the credibility of professional football to the supporters, sponsors, and everybody connected with the game.”
I couldn't agree more with what they've said. There's something suspicious about this and we'll probably never get to know the real reason for his sacking .
