Ok basically I get paid a fair bit soon and I want to purchase a new console.

Personally I would really like a PS3 since I've grown up with PlayStation plus I like the controller more than a 360.

Also I only really just want a NextGen console ready for the release of GTA 4.

But I read today that the 360 is coming down in price to about £250 and the Ps3 is still staying up at £400 so it makes more sense to me to get a 360.

But what I really want to know is what its better graphics wise etc. Not interested in whether you like your 360 more or that there are more games out I just wanna know the specs of both of them.

Thanks

Go for what you think would best suit your gaming style. If you like playing online then go for the 360.

I am exactly like this for a xmas present. I would say PS3 is actually cheaper and better. Mainly because:

Online: PS3 = Free, 360 + Elite = £40 a year
HD DVD: PS3 = (Blu-Ray) Free, 360 + Elite (HD DVD) £120
Memory: PS3 = 60GB, 360 = 20GB, Elite = 120GB but
Price: PS3 = (with 3 games and extra controller) £425, 360 = £280 (with two games and extra controller), Elite = £320 (with nothing)
Graphics: PS3 = 1.3 HDMI, 360 = Compostive cables?, Elite = HDMI 1.2
Age: PS3 = 5 Months, 360 = 20 months, Elite = Not released (but will Defunt when 360 does to make way for next XBox)

So:

XBox = Good priced for regular gaming offline, £40 extra for probobly more people to play online than PS3
PS3 = Good entertainment price due to HD DVD, less people online than 360
Wlite = Same as 360 but more memory for £40 and 2 games and a controller less

Graphics is all opinion. The PS3 has "lighter and brighter" graphics than the 360 which can serve as a bonus in some games , but not others.
The 360 is taking exclusives off the PS3 , but the PS3 has very good exclusives still.
The 360 controller is also better for me as I find it easier to get my hands in the right place , with the PS2/3 controller my hands are too big for it :]

The PS3 graphics are better in my opinion. They do 1080p, so its clear as hell. THe graphics are just purly amazing.

Also, theres new features like DVD up-scaling, so you can make normal DVDs into HD quality.

Also, if you buy the PS3 60 gig model, it has built in wireless. Im pretty sure you still need to buy a wireless adapter for the 360.

Xbox 360 elite will own the ps3 in these categories:
Memory
Online Playing
Games [more selection]
Cost [of console and games]
And graphics [bigger gpu]

Iv'e had both a 360 and a ps3. I preffer the 360 over any console atm

if you were to get a ps3, check www.game.co.uk (http://www.game.co.uk), thats where you can get 3 games, extra controller for 425, i think ps3 is better atm cos of 1080p res. but i know elite can do that when it comes out. one thing i dont get bout microsoft, they make update on console, yet halo 3 is only 720p res. anyway its up to you and what you think

one last thing, people sya "xbox is cheeper" yet when it came out it was about 300 quid with 20gb hdd, add on 120 quid for hd-dvd, which is 420, same as ps3 was with blu-ray and 60gb hdd.

but like i said, Whatever you feel best

It has been proved that the 360 has better graphics than the PS3, that's not from a fan boys point of view, it's fact.

360 does support 1080p :S And Halo 3 supports 1080p aswell. Bungie said so. And seriously speaking, almost all the Sony fanboys I have met have never played Xbox Live. It is worth £40 a year.

I have both.

Xbox Live is MUCH better than PSN, It is worth the £40.

Longetivity is where its at though, The PS3 just feels ... future proofed with its blu-ray drive (Theres talk of UT3 coming on 2 DVD discs for 360 yet only one blu-ray disc).

Also the 360's failure rate is 33% and mine has broken, repair speed was good but still annoying.

360 has the better games atm but next year is the ps3 year with littlebigplanet, killzone 2, mgs4 etc.

So if you're buying a console for this year go 360 but the future feels like its going to be ps3 in my opinion.

Killzone 1 was crap.

HD-DVD is coming before blu-ray so don't start with that nonsense. It'll be several years before blu-ray is common.

It was the only ever PS2 game I traded in - and I had Smash Court Tennis.

That's saying something.

Going to have to agree with Josh. 360 has a better gaming selection now, and better online, but there's a lot of big name exclusives coming up for PS3, like MGS4 and Final Fantasy XIII.

Personally, I love my PS3, & never really play my 360 as much. I don't like the 360's controller either...
