A rather small alt, but it was fun to make, and I think it's turned out rather well:

Not to everyone's taste, I know. Well, I recoloured the black lines to a darkish brown. I also added a shine to the gold and added some shadows on the lamp and made the shadow on the floor longer. There's some other stuff that can be done but I'll leave it too you. :P

Had another go at the lamp with the advice taken onboard, I also had another go with the light, I would say its an improvement, but not much on one, it probably would have went better if the colour of the glass was white (transparent):

How do you do the lighting? :S I only can think of two ways:
You used a lighting effect.
You did it all on paint - I wouldnt belive it ^^

I don't use a lighting effect, I use a fading cascade effect that you can use with paint, I only learned how to do it recently, and its pretty crap to be honast :rolleyes:

I import my image to the program and build up a light effect using circles which start off transparent, and grow increasing more opaque with every circle
