A 10 foot rope ladder hangs over the side of a boat with the bottom rung on the surface of the water. The rungs are one foot apart, and the tide goes up at the rate of 6 inches per hour. How long will it be until three rungs are covered?

Im not sure what your getting on about but it sounds alot like the one i tell my freinds..:

If a boat has a rope ladder over it and 3 foot steps are showing.. Then the water rises 14 ft (Each step is 3 ft) how meny steps are still showing.

And the answer is of course 3 because the boat floats :)

36 (inches) / 6 (rising sea lvl ph) = 6

3 x 12 = 36
36 / 6 = 6

It's erm around 7 hours as it doesnt only cover the space inbetween but it has to cover the actual rung. We don't know how thick the rung is so we can't answer the question.
