I am a strong supporter of Make Poverty History (htttp://www.makepovertyhistory.org). Anyone who is subscribed with them will have received this email from Dido. It's self explanatory:

Hi

Today is World Debt Day. (http://www.jubileedebtcampaign.org.uk) And today - as on every day - the rich world will demand $100 million from poor countries in debt repayments while poverty is killing 50,000 people every day. What's the point of giving aid with one hand yet taking so much away with the other.

Seven years ago today, 70,000 people formed a human chain around the G8 summit in Birmingham to demand the cancellation of unfair debt. They didn't only make headlines - but made a difference. 12 months later, the same world leaders agreed to cancel $100 million of debts owed by the world's poorest countries. It was a triumph of people power.

In seven weeks the G8 returns to the UK for the first time since they were in Birmingham. Thousands will gather in Edinburgh on July 2nd (http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/edinburgh) to call on the leaders of the world's richest nations to Make Poverty History. You can be one of them.

The message is clear:
Enough is enough. There needs to be trade justice, debt cancellation, and more and better aid for the world's poorest countries.

I was moved when Mr Mandela said "Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that generation". It feels like these chances don't come often but this is a real opportunity to make changes in the world.

Thank you

Dido

P.S. Movie director Anthony Minghella made this film (http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/video/?pageVideo=/flv/dropthedebt512k.flv) to highlight the craziness of Africans giving us in debt repayments MORE than we give them in aid. Watch it, and if you can, send it to a friend and urge them to join us.
I would urge everyone to watch the videos on the MPH website. They are available in 56K dial-up and 512k broadband.

You are not asked for any money. Just to add your voice to ours. To say enough is enough, and to tell the world leaders that we can make a difference...

Kro out.

LEDC countries have too much debt with richer countries, so they are unable to improve their country without the help of charities, so I don't think the campaign is simply money making, it's actually helping a lot of people.
Using celebrities just helps the campaign to gain publicity.

Anyways, If they want money ask there governmentWOW! I am truly amazed - YOU have actually managed to miss the WHOLE point! Did you actually visit the MPH website (http://www.makepovertyhistory.com) AND read it?

1. The short films are showing the true state of 3rd world countries, when they have no need to suffer in this way.

2. Saying it is "a waste of time" is simply naive and immature at best. At worst I cannot comment...

3. They DON'T want your money. They want a little bit of your time and effort to send an email to Tony Blair. They even have the email written for you, so it literally takes hardly a minute.

4. Their own governments have massive debts to governments like ours - we can afford to cancel them!

You are only living in the country you are living in, and enjoying the benefits thereof, due to pure circumstances of birth, nothing else.

Could you live on less than US$1.00 a day, as they have to?

I'm welcome to my opinion, Anyways, I think they should not keep bothering us, i've gave them my time, And instead of tony blair looking to get a sticker from George Bush, He should be bothering with his job, US!, I've noticed in the past few years state schools are going down hill, To much money is given to them, And to be honest the teachers are poorly trained. The students don't want to learn, We are getting lazy, So instead of bothering about everbody in the world, Think about our country, It's going downhill, The children are beasts, We are lazy. Mums pick and take there kids to school, because to lazy to walk.

ALL IN ALL, Our country (UNITED KINGDOM) Is losing it. You can give me as much bad rep as you like (Which i recived) but to be honest, that's not going to do anything.

The fact is, Instead of worrying about every other country, Look at ours.

EDIT: Another fact, A girl at a near by school (Girl) got beaten up, Just because she was pretty then most of the other girls, and she didn't smoke and listened in class, she had a head kicked untill it gaved in, Her face will be scarred for life, And hundreds of people get hurt a day, Just because of another ones actions. She and hundreds of others are now scared to go out because of what might happen to them.

Thanks for your time, and next time you go out, Just think... Look at ourselfs

I've seen them, they really encourage people to buy the bands I think, and also think about stuff like this:
someone: :o I wish I had HC, I'm so unlucky!

and when people say this people dont even have enough money to have a drink of water and children our age have to work all day just for 50p or something ridiculous like that just to have enough money to live... :'(
