ok so i went back to school today and they have a bunch of new stupid rules like no trashy clothes, no jeans with holes in them, no ipods or cell phones in class, no smoking. no outdoor clothing in class (this includes sweaters/hoodies) heres the kicker, you have to pay $120 to register your car with the school so you can park it in the new student parking area and if your isn't registered with the school you will loose school activities privlages and/or your car will be towed. it's another $30 to register each aditional vehicle under your name.

OH YEAH, not that i eat at the cafeteria, they switched to nasty "healthy" foods.

what kind of rules does your school enforce this year?

My school stopped non uniform days
"innapropiate, pointless and distracts students from their work" sais the headteacher.
I got two hours off lessons to have a 1-1 debate with him about unifromVnon-uniform. oh it was funnnnnnn!

Sometimes we have "Non-Uniform" days, That's usually on a charity event day or something so we all bring in £1 for not wearing uniform but if you haven't got the cash you've gotta still wear uniform. They've changed now the boys traditionally always wore shirt, tie and blazer and the girls would wear a pullover top with the tie and shirt but now the girls can wear the pullover, But they must also wear a blazer ontop of that and that's not optional unless your in the last year (year I'm currently in), Because the change was made when we were into our 2nd year. I'll see if i can find you a picture of it :8.

thats a NEW rule? you were allowed to smoke before? thats crazy. and i think its reasonable for them to not allow you to listen to ipods or talk on cell phones :/. and i always perceived "trashy clothes" as a bad thing. so why would you want to wear them?

anyway, pretty much all those things are allowed in my school other than smoking. we're laid back for the most part. there'd be riots if ripped jeans weren't allowed.

i never understood the argument for school uniforms. people say its so that people won't start conflicts with people who have less money or wear different things. but that's part of the learning in school. you dont just learn from teachers, school is a social learning field. kids have to learn to respect one another's differences for when they go out into the real world where there are no uniforms.

the reason my teachers give us when we ask why we're not allowed to wear normal clothes is because "people might get bullied because of what they wear".

we went on a school trip to Spain, each and every one of us wearing our own clothes.. and who got bullied? no one. its really annoying because i think that if your wearing your own comfortable clothes you're likely to concentrate moree.

Erm they sometimes send you home or give you a detention.

At my school we have never had uniform but then we got a new head teacher and he gave us a uniform and said that we dont have to wear it if we dont want to, so only the little kids wear it for some reasons:s.
For years aswell they have been saying were getting a dress code and as soon as they do get it im not wearing it because we coped for years before.
Oh and another new thing they have done or are going to do is be taking 10 mins off our lunch break for good reason. Thats about it i think:\.

Btw whats report like? Do you have to have a member of staff with you all the time or summit?

Tie, blazer, shirt, and you must wear your ID card all the time. If you don't have black shoes (no converse or trainers), or your uniform, or your ID card, you get put in isolation until your parents bring what in what you need.

they're probably filtering it in gradually with the new students so every year the new students have to wear the uniform so this year (if your from the UK) Year 7 have to wear it then next year year 7 and 8 then year 7, 8 and 9 etc etc.

Our School Uniform is also strict. :|

Were not allowed to wear any jewellery apart from a pair of studded earrings and a watch. No necklaces, bracelets, hoop earings or rings.
Must wear sensible black shoes, not allowed to show any white lines, or be timberland they must be covered all over in black; no other visable colours.
Everywhere you go you must wear the correct uniform, or jumper and are only allowed to take your jumper/blazer off if you have permission from your subject tutor.
WHITE SOCKS only.

Our school is crazy..
And now, were not allowed any funky hairstyles. No colours, just natural.. and people aren't allowed to have spiky hair that sticks out too far etc.

Its getting beyond a joke. Hairstyles, clothing and shoes do NOT stop you from learning..

why do you need your ipod?

Blazers must be no longer than 4 inches below the waist, no undone top buttons, always tuck in your shirt, no makeup, no nail varnish, no short ties, skirts must be 22" in length, boys hair must be no shorter than a 3 on the shaver thingy and must be no longer than your collar, no ipods/phones to be used between 8:50 - 3:45 and that's it basically :l

Argh. you americans whine so much :P We have black blazers, with black pants and black shoes and black socks which makes you fry on the ground in the summer, Maroon striped tie (-.-) and white shirt, no makeup, no piercings (Plain stud, one per ear lobe) no nail varnish, no wild hairstyles, we also have a one way system -.- top buttons must be done up, shirts tucked in if its not fitted, if you have your ipod/fone out anywhere around the school it gets taken off you, just as strict on the PE kit. argh, so many rules. No chewing gum, and ofc since its against the law in england, no smoking in school. But nice teachers dont care about uniform and if its hot, you can take off your tie and undo your top button and eat in class and listen to ipod :]

My old school was the same.
1 hour detention for eating anywhere other than that.
No smoking on grounds (not enforced).
No white lines at all on shoes.
Black jumper, green t-shirt for uniform.
Year 10 and 11 allowed off site, years 7-9 needed a note to go home for lunch, not to the chippy.

etc.

I quite liked my old school uniform. Say what you will about individuality and whatnot, but it did give people a sense of belonging. The sorts of people who we didn't like were people we didn't like because they were absolute losers or because they just looked or smelt funny, but the "chavs" and all the other little groups all got on pretty much. I don't think it infringed on our ability to be ourselves at all, because that showed through our personality or physique anyway.

At college we don't wear uniforms, and to be honest there's hardly any difference. People aren't really segregated by what they wear, it is again whether they're spacky or ugly or whatever. Uniforms are fine really, the problem is that kids these days don't have any respect for any establishments, because they're brought up to be anti-secular, anti-authority brats.

No planner = lunch time isolation (all your lunch hour in a room copying)
10 negative comments in any subject = detention (it was 5 in a certain subject)
we get an informal warning den a formal den a negative comment.. behaviour policy tht is..

mines a good school.. nothing mega strict.. if u got wrong uniform u need a note saying y.. otherwise u get a straight comment.. aload of other things can lead to immediate punishments..

shirt untucked/tie too short/forget any piece of uniform = detention

give it a week though and all of the teachers will forget about that rule. oh and no ipods in lessons, but it's always been like that. if you forget any equipment you have to go to the head of year and explain why :s 3 lates and a letter home too, yet i don't think teachers realise there's a 5 min walk from block to block so yeah, we will be late at times and we can't help it.

Precisely. I mean, extreme chavs don't talk to goths or whatever, but most people get along. If anything, everyone from our school are closer than before. As are more people talking to more people, with most people getting along. Its also attitude, not appearence. And theres this next level table, never seen 12 girls of that...calibre on the same table.

well I go back to school on tuesday. My school is going plastic basically. everything is done by card, getting into the building, getting into classrooms, lunches ect. Same rules as the old school except a new building which is unfreaking believeable! It was designed by lord foster Aka the gurkin guy.

But its amazing, the media has given the no playground thing such a negative side but seriously who needs one, big sports hall, climbing wall, gym, computers in every room (heaven). The school is huge all glass with loads of stairs and bridges! its amazing, Its gonna be great.

same uniform tie blazer ect. but oh well.

Wow, you guys get off so easy.

Most of the stuff explained in this thread would get us a detention / suspension if not expelled. Smoking would be immediate dismissal, suspensions for continious ipods / phones in class or general distruption of class (they usually get confiscated) and boy are they strict on uniform, and hair, makeup / jewellery.
