I think the layout and the furni is fine. The problem as I see it is the grey wall and floor. For sherlock holmes it would have maybe been green or brown or dark red?
The atmosphere is missing a bit as in Victorian times it would have been darker as it was oil lamps. Going a more dramatic darker colour would show the lighting and give more atmosphere I think :) xox
