View Full Version : HabboxLive - What do you think?
,Jess,

Hiya,
I realise that a lot of forum users don't tune into HabboxLive, some purely because they do not use habbo or would rather listen to their own music. There are some forum members I'm guessing however that do use habbo and tune into other habbo radio sites.
What i want to know is..
What would make you tune into HxL?
If you do tune into HxL, what do you like about it?
Ideas for events etc
Any comments or suggestions are appreciated, well let me rephrase that. Anything constructive and backed up is appreciated. I'm not looking for people replying saying "HxL is crap" and nothing else, I want to know why you think that.
Thanks,
Jess <3

Most DJs play crap music and i prefer my own music.. DJs play all this gothic/heavy metal/metal/rock crap, whereas some atleast play RAP but i prefer the 'dance' etc..

DJ CT has I think 2 perm shows that are mainly dance music based, you might like them infact one of them is on right now.
But yah we all like to listen to our own music from time to time, so fair enough :].

Galaxay - the music I play is Dance music or in the Dance music genre. If you go to 'hardcore', you lose listeners as the music I play is not always up to the listeners' tastes.

Scott, give me the name of a song you like so like I know what music you mean. Just to point out if you request something on a show that a DJ doesn't have at the time very often they do get it.
I've downloaded so many requests after shows and they've never ever been requested again.

Some people tune in through habbox.com and we try and get as many people listeneing through the main site as possible. I guess it's just out of habit repeating the site name. The whole point of the radio being on habbox.com is to promote it. Although listeners are still listeners it's nicer knowing people have tuned in for you and not just because they;re checking the latest value of the throne.

Everyone prefers the new joomla layout, im sure HxL should go joomla or alot better.
Galaxay1

Habbox changed when they changed to Joomla :P
there are a few things i feel that is wrong with habboxlive.
the main thing though is the way you address the listeners, most of you come looking for listeners onm this forum but apart from that you won't ever post. i manage a radio on habmate & tbf, all my dj's were dedicated forum users, the response to dj's is ALOT better than the one here.
you all seem to have a "oh i'm habboxlive staff, thus means i am better than you" ring about it.
and please don't tell me i'm incorrect or wrong, i have worked for hxl twice AND, me and allan got victimized a hella amount of times because we don't share the attitude that the majority seems to. i'm not saying all, because some of you are lovely. but you have your little group.
your best dj is jaii, he should get alot more opportunities given to him.

Whatever I say is going sound like I'm saying you're incorrect or wrong because well yeah I don't agree else yeah I would of been gone from HxL a long time ago.
But, lots of the DJs joined the forum in the first place because you have to as a radio DJ. Personally myself I only knew about habbox to start off with and then found out about the radio then the forum after. Some use the forum mainly for the staff forums and then will post in threads about HxL etc. It doesn't mean that they're "stuck up", just that they don't use the forum that much. It's a shame that people get that impression.
Also what do you mean by "you have your little group"?

I've been at Habbox Live since June and I've not noticed any staff or DJs showing an attitude of what you describe. How the flippin heck have you managed to come up with that quote I have no idea.
and please don't tell me i'm incorrect or wrong, i have worked for hxl twice
OK, I'm going to tell you that you are both incorrect and wrong, we all make the effort to post in the forum - we respond to issues that listeners' have in the 'Ask Habbox Staff' forum. I have also found myself posting responses to threads in other parts of the forum, otherwise my post count wouldn't be where it is now.
You can not say that the Habbox Live Staff go looking for listeners on this forum, because in my opinion we don't. We have listeners than consistantly tune in because Habbox Live has got reputation and is widely known as the best Habbo Fan Station.
but you have your little group.
absolute rubbish. I've been here since June and once again I'll say this, HabboxLive Staff/DJs do not have their own little group as you like to put it. I always manage to get along with Jess, Lepore, Normal, Danny and other DJs without a problem. I know back in July - I had a massive fall out with quite a few DJs but since then I have had no problems with Habbox Live (well, maybe my warnings - but that's my fault) and we have a great radio manager and a great team dedicated to putting time and effort in to Habbox Live.
If you don't like it, go back to HabMate - you seem happier there than you do here.

I go on Habbo during shows, and I know that most Habbox Live Staff are on it most of the time. I was simply stating that they will have better things to do than go on Habbo just to have a "snobby chat". They go on Habbo because it's fun and somewhat addictive.

I prefer listening to Itunes because theres no interuptions between songs if you get me? I know Joey used to do a total request live show or something I'm not sure if he still does that but meh. I also actualy doubt anyone would like my music taste as its pretty random I like modern songs/music but also enjoy listening to some oldies from the 80's so meh. I'd also like to add regarding the 'group' comments what department doesn't have groups? I hang out with people who work at the Help Desk alot of the time not only because I work with them but because I enjoy their company which is what I assume the reason people from HxL hang out also whats wrong with that?? Unless people are going to start calling me a 'snob'

We are working on the music policy, there was a thread regarding 80s / Classic Hits and it was all taken in to consideration.
I also up until Summer, done a request show on a Sunday night. However I might re-schedule it. However during these request shows and from what I noticed, listeners just wanted the same top 40 songs or tracks that are played on HxL everyday. You got the odd request for like Bob the Builder lol but other than that it was "Can you play Rihanna?". Not that I'm knocking that, obviously if you like the tune, you're going to want to hear it.

Hollywood, Yourself & Dan2nd made a valid point.
In my opinion, I don't think we have groups but then again Dan2nd pointed out that if there is groups then we are bound to stick together because we like each other.
I haven't really made my mind up to be honest.
Galaxay - you told me and Jess yesterday that you like dance music. When we told you about my dance music shows, you dismissed that and said it was crap aswell. I don't mind your comment, as that is your opinion and obviously it wasn't up to your standards.

Ok people I'm going to give this thread a chance to turn itself around before it gets closed because of it losing its topic.
I am directing this comment to both DJs and Forum users who have turned this thread from a constructive way of getting feedback from the forum visitors, to a total slanging match about why each persons points are invalid o.O.
As far as I know the layout had no font problems, but I'd be more than happy to correct them if somebody was to PM me the pages, and locations of the issues. The "new" layout was a play on how Habbox used to be since so many people used to love the old Habbox style, we thought we might try and appeal to some of our older listeners, while giving out new listeners an insight into how things used to be :).
With regards to music, the swearing policy will not be lifted while I am in charge, and probably not until long after I'm gone. Many people go on about some swear words being allowed, but in actual fact it is too indescriminate and confusing for DJs, since we would be saying "yes some swearing is allowed", but then they would receive a written warning later on because they played a word which is unacceptable. A no swearing policy prevents confusion :).
With regards to music genre, alot of our forum users tend to act on the stereotypes of other users; for instance, I hear all the time about how HabboxLive plays too much rock and heavy metal, when I haven't got a clue how that one started. If anything, we don't play enough heavy metal, and generally tend to pleasing our indie/R+B listeners, with the occasional bit of rap or rock thrown in. Or maybe I've been listening to the wrong station for the past year :P.
Yes, HabboxLive has a group of staff who ar every close and get along extremely well together; some listeners also fall in with this group and it brings an extremely friendly atmosphere to party rooms for other listeners (mainly at my expense since they are intent on taking the mickey out of me ;)). New DJs are always welcomed into this little "fold" with open arms as far as I'm concerned, and it encourages people to come out of themselves and get involved with the team as a whole, rather than just keep themselves to themselves. I am all for this type of teamwork and have encouraged a large friendship group in HabboxLive ever since I was a mere Head DJ. It helps trialists get more involved and pick up tips and hints and help on how to progress their work, it lets listeners feel part of something, and creates a listener-DJ link.
Let it be known that nowhere in my managing experience at HabboxLive, has it's little group ever have been known by me to have bullied or intimidated any member of the team. New staff have the opportunity to join in socially if they wish, or just get on with the job, much like the real world. The main focus of the group is in HabboxLive party rooms, and in the staff forums, however you may often also see things escalate a little further when one staff member is in some sort of argument, at which point one of the management step in where we can and sort it.
Clearly some DJs don't like to be told how to do things, by forum users, and some forum users don't like to post constructively. And for it then to escalate to "you're immature", "no, you're immature" is just plain ridiculous.
So, can we have some posting in the form of constructive criticism, as was asked for in the initial post, please? If not, then the thread can just be closed.
Constructive criticism will work in the way of:
Offering generalisations of music that you like to hear, so DJs can work on moulding their shows to fit the majority of needs. It is often better if you name an artist that defines that specific style of music, so that there is no confusion. For instance, The Kooks define a lot of the indie genre etc..
Offer specific improvements to the website, with references to pages and content that have errors, need to be improved, and/or why you think so.
Giving your thoughts on HabboxLive policies in a positive way and saying not only how you think they should be improved, but why, and how it will benefit listeners and DJs. It doesn't take much to say "this is rubbish", but it is the sign of a more mature individual to be able to say "I think this isn't working well, because... and it could be improved like this... which would benefit other people in this way...".
So by all means, raise your points, but raise them in a non-confrontational way, since this thread is for the benefit of everybody concerned, and for it to be closed because of it going off topic, would just be a waste of effort for those who are actually bothered about how we can improve. <---- That is directed at everybody.

You do have groups. Theres specific people who are always with the DJs..
Kate, Imogen, Mikey are usually in same place along with various other people, jess, jade etc..
I agree, i dont like his attitude.
That's called having friends. If I thought it was meant groups in that way I really wouldn't of asked the question. We don't tell people to "get lost" etc just we get on. New people are always coming in and are welcomed into that "group". We DJ, they're our dedicated listeners. The thing about HxL is everyone gets along, in the staff department I'm talking about, so well infact which is what keeps so many of us here so long. The relationship with the listeners is so good as well. That in my opinion is one of the best things about HxL and not many other sites have that.
i think that djs should play all varieties of music to please everyone. seems like everytime i listen to hxl, its just dance music. i dont have a problem with dance music, but i think that there is not variety.
Hmm we try so hard to play a variety of music and there's always critisizm that we either play "too much hard rock", "too much dance" or "crap like the vengaboys". It is impossible to please everyone at the same time. Also we try our best to play the songs that the listeners request so yeah if there's something you want to hear, like I said before the DJ will most likely try and get it.
Also Adam, good essay :]

Yes, we do have "groups" with DJs, and dedicated listeners, but we don't do it to intimidate or bully anyone, or to act "snobby" to other DJs/listeners/other users. It is as simple as the fact we are close to certain DJs, and close to certain listeners. Like Adzeh said, new DJs / listeners are welcomed, and are completely welcome to join the so called "group" we have.
I'm sure in other departments you have little groups where users are close.
As for things not being played, we get people complaining that there is not enough of anything being played. Sometimes people will complain about the amount of rock, dance, pop, R&B, metal, ANYTHING. You just all seem to tune in at the wrong time.
The only genre I have noticed that isn't being played that much is older music from 80's/90's. And we are in the middle of sorting that out.

Bring back the rock and indie shows, at the moment the radio caters to the mainly the mainstream popular music fans and it isnt really that good to be honest, The old classics are never ever played anymore, wee bit of blondie or some acdc, or new stuff like get cape or the wombats, need to cater for everyone i guess.

I need to disagree quite a bit as I do know that certain DJs play some old classics. I certainly play old to new on a half half ratio. Atm, I don't think any of the DJs at HabboxLive like rock but I may be wrong. We don't force DJs to start a show, even if they do suit the catagory however if a DJ sees this and wants to set one up, then yeh :)
