Hey there, I started going to the gym ages ago, until in April this year I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and was told to keep away from the gym until I get used to the spasms.

So I've got them under control and going next week. :)

What I want to know is, the first time I went the guy told me and my gym partner we're putting weight on because we don't eat ENOUGH so what we do eat, the body stores as fat so it can eat off of that...

Which I find weird so I just went to talk to my connexions adviser and it d.ced me (;l) so... is this even true?

I've googled it, can't find anything!

yer if u dont eat enough, i think u do get fatter, but its bad..

If the guy told you, then it must have some meaning behind it.

It makes sense, because people who want to lose weight don't starve themselves, they eat differently.

Yeah and I've noticed.. when I eat more my ""belly"" gets smaller, LOL?

Not eating at all will in the end make you lose ALOT of weight, and in the end, kill you. (Hence 1/5 anorexic's end up dead)


If you don't eat enough, well, it all depends on the person.
Some people lose weight, some gain.
It just depends on the person, really.

Yeah, its really bad not to eat, makes you fatter if you dont eat.

What happens is that if you don't eat then your metabolism slows down which means that when you do eat then you'l absorb more energy from it which will turn to fat.

i'm not sure if you'd get fatter but you'd probably get a bit big.
like you see world vision & those things?
maybe like that.
the bloated-looking belly, etc.

this girl, if you looked at it, she starved herself and that's the outcome.

in most cases, it's not true you'll get fatter, you may get a bloated stomach, but in most if not all cases, you will lose weight, whether or not it's fat or muscle that you're losing, you will lose it.

now, although some people do gain weight when they begin not eating, if they carry on not eating, they will lose it. it's because the body get's used to not eating and panics, so it starts eating itself. like, eating your stomach, which'll cause holes (ulcers). or, eating away at your muscle and fat. which'll cause weight loss.

if you only eat, say one meal a day, then you could still lose alot of weight, and if you're exericising too as that burns the calories off.

but everyone is different, i guess, and maybe some people do get fatter, everyones bodies are different, they react differently, so it is a bit hard to tell what happens to people if they don't eat enough, or at all.

from experience, and from what i have seen, you lose ALOT of weight and end up being incredibly ill, and at deaths door.

but hey, that's just my opinion!

Im not sure if you not eating alot is down to it. Muslce is more dense than fat so when you start working out you will begin to gain weight. Perhaps thats behind it?

It is perfectly true that you can put on weight by not eating enough. My PSHE teacher explained it to us. It's cos your body's desperate for food and fat is an energy store. Your body stores as much as it can and you put on weight :)
