right you'll probally flame me but im postin anyways

can you (management) do something about the rep system.

for months you've been going on about how it's out of control and bad etc, but can you finally act instead of talking about it - unless somethings already going on..

eg; the pointless good rep debate - your removing them, then your allowing people to buy reputation which is basically the same as a pointless good rep (see the contradiction?) you've heard it again and again ino but mad and nvr all think it was a bad idea, things arnt going to change themselves. (could of sworn they do anyways)

eg2: bad reputation - it seems that there is no point to bad rep someone as 10 minutes later they'll check there CP, and report it even if they have been an ***, and it always will be removed (as i've seen multiple times :rolleyes:)

also those rep titles like habboxforum legend and stuff are wrong because im sure as hell there are some people who dnt deserve that title (and some people who are getting real close to it) and i have no idea how they made there rep unless it was bought.. which brings back to eg1.. lool anyways yh lol

so w/e i'm just venting cos sooo many people are complaining about rep lately and i want management to do something about it.

You won't get "flamed" for that. It is a constructive post with the good/bad sides mentioned and ways they can be resolved ;).

Regarding "eg1": We are thinking about removing the bad rep feature. Its currently being discussed within management.

"EG2": Bad reputation is only remove if it is deemed pointless (as in revenge reps or reps with unacceptable material in the comment etc). We could remove bad repping altogether but there was a poll a while ago where people wanted to keep it (I think thats what it was about may have been about the rep system in general - check if you wish).

Maybe there is a way of stopping people seeing who gave bad rep? at least that might stop revenge and arguments.

VIPs pay to see who repped them so they can't remove that, most VIPs like the option to be able to see who repped them so I don't think it would be fair to remove

if you good rep somebody most sign their name in the comment anyway so if vip's lost it then its no big deal :o i did join as vip once just so i could revenge rep :o i could have got their bad rep on me removed but i had more rep power and of course you find a bad or stupid thread/post so they cant get the bad rep removed.

You can't just remove bad rep and keep good. Then, what's the point of good rep? Because, you rep someone for a good post, and you bad rep someone for a bad post or something similar. If you remove one, you should remove it all.

If you ask me, it causes nothing but trouble, and it doesn't even have a purpose. I've seen forums work perfectly fine without the rep system, so you should just get rid of it.

I normally check the bad rep out before I remove it. I don't just take it away as that ruins the point! Also when checking your rep in the last month (as the system by default loads up the previous month) I tend to take away pointless good rep aswell.

I also don't think that bad rep should be removed from the system. If it was possible to put reputation into a moderation queue (just bad) then it would stop the need for the report rep thread, which is abused and has it's regulars who seem to report nearly all of their bad rep and it doesn't even get removed as it isn't pointless.

Buying repuation I agree should be removed as it defies(sp?) the point of the system of earning reputation. However it earns Habbox some money so I dunno if it will be taken away.

The reason deciding a course of action takes time is because if we jump into an idea, you will all complain that we are being unfair (Like when we take away pointless good rep, which is one of the changes).

on-topic. I have never agreed with buying rep myself but the funds have to be raised to keep the sites and radio open. Its a difficult one :(

I've never liked the fact that users could buy reputation, it almost defeats the point of reputation entirely. As for removing the -rep ability, +rep would need to be removed too because they balance each other, one without the other would just cause even more abuse and would ultimately make +rep pointless because everyone would have it.

The thing is with purchasing rep, it's people putting something back into Habbox, out of their pocket and through there own choice.
Pointless good rep from others, isn't the person recieving the rep, choice.

I think the bad rep function should stay, since I reckon there's still more rep which goes unreported. Just there's certain people who are seriously concerned about their reputation levels (which is worrying.. if you can't accept earned bad rep, shouldn't of posted it!)

The reputation system is just a bit warped, it's always been abused, but since the report bad rep came into function, it's got worse (IMO), since people can find loopholes (sometimes) in some which aren't removed.

We are actually trying to do something about the current system. Among the administrators we had a discussion (prior to that thread, it actually sort of sparked that thread) about fixing pointless -rep and pointless +rep. Also, we are considering removing the feature that allows people to purchase rep, as it is seldom used, and sort of uneeded.

EG1: I agree, buying rep should be removed, we have been looking into it.

EG2: We've recieved this complaint many, many times, and since then the number of bad reps removed has decreased drastically. Now, the only way to really have it removed, is something that would be infracted in terms of rudeness / swearing, or something that is entirely pointless / revenge rep. We are trying to enforce it as best we can, and reduce the use of the report -rep thread so that only the really bad ones are reported.

That doesn't happen any more. Or at least we are *trying* to make sure that it doesn't. Just because the post was deleted doesn't mean the rep is gone :)

I don't believe you can only allow people to see names for one type of reputation, I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure on that one.

I agree, -rep is needed to balance out +rep, otherwise the whole idea of rep coming even *close* to trust is out the window, as people can never go backwards if they do something bad, they can only go forwards, and that isn't right when its supposed to show something (although the meaning has been rendered somewhat meaningless over the years :P)

That's basically what we're doing now :P Swearing / rep / abuse of rules in the rep, or pointless rep are the only things removed.

The one thing which I think is a problem is that if VIPs can see who -repped them, there is nothing stopping them from finding a post from that user which they do not like and -repping them with a legitimate reason to stop it from getting removed. Thus, members do not want to -rep VIPs because they can, and usually will, get it back.

I was thinking this over a little more and reviewing my own rep points :O
It seems that when you take your time to make a thread or post that deserves rep nobody bothers :O
on the other hand you make a sarcastic comment or joke and you end up getting a lot of rep :O not sure how you could change that.
