only 10 days with no single to promote it anything? wow. always ones to be different.
i might buy it depending on how good the lead single is.

actually, i've heard some of the live stuff, it's much more back-to-basics. i mean, it's still radiohead, but it's not as weird. they even have a run-dmc tribute song.
not only that, it's all online [for now]. apparently the album will be out in formal cd-form in early 2008. they just dont want the usual announcement/leaking/officialness of it. the album wont be in physical form until december, and won't be in anything of the formal until 2008, but they will have it for download [essentially for free] in 9 days -- which is their idea of leaking the album themselves. only a band in their rich-but-labeless position can really pull it off.

you know what's insane? more people are ordering the £40.00 box set than just the download.

there were some clips of new songs posted a few months back. they're all 5-10 seconds long and in a confusing and skippy tape, but what's heard sounds amazing.

it's a good idea, instead of downloading it people will most likely pay just the 1p for the novelty factor thus the band making money anyway

tbh radiohead are hype-machines. this is even more extreme than kid a. before that album, they didnt release any singles or videos, instead just sent a bunch of 10 second clips to mtv with weird animation and showed their logo. and the album went #1 internationally with basically no support. they're good at this crazy-marketing, down-with-the-industry stuff.

i agree, the suprise interests people into buying it.
If i was ever in a famous band i would most likely release a album without anyone knowing, just randomly release it, see how it does.
sure it would get leaked like most albums but just deny it on your official website even though it's true.

Just listened to that body snatchers... its pretty crap tbh .. there isnt really much going on, not really catchy , its boring tbh, the whole album seemed pretty bland on the preview thing apart from one song that was slow and had some sort of bells in it at 34 seconds ? Meh I will get the album and see what all the fuss is bout .

bodysnatchers is like a return to their bends stuff. which im sure everyone will like. ohhhh and i love bells. that was probably jonny greenwood (<3) because he knows how to play every instrument ever invented.
it's easily the most anticipated record of the past couple years or so.

i think videotape is going to be amazing. thom's solo version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0MI3gtaqfY) was amazing, i can't imagine how good it'll be with the rest of the band at ultimate-recording sound. but yar. this album sounds so much simpler than most of their past stuff. which i guess could be a good and bad thing
30 hours left! :D

I haven't really been bothered about this album. Haven't checked out any of their material just yet but will look into it. Quite intrigued though as you described Bodysnatchers as like a return to The Bends, the best Radiohead album.

100% true. you can pay absolutely nothing if you want. its rumored oasis are considering doing the same [since they're also label-less]

hi.
album of the year.
thanks.
by the way, there was a slight catch. if you paid nothing, the mp3 quality was slightly less [160 kbps] than if you paid even a penny [240 kbps], but you have to have a very keen ear in order to even hear the difference. but i dont think they did that to stick it to you, i think they just did it so they wouldnt have a server overload, as 240 kbps takes much more. and their site isnt the most reliable.
but anyway, the album is crumbelievable. ive been listening to it nonstop today.
"weird fishes/apreggi" + "all i need" ftw.

they dont have incredibly weird songs [*cough* fitter happier/we suck young blood/everything on kid a*cough*] but it's so relaxing and pretty. after bodysnatchers, it's just all chill. videotape wasn't as good as i was hoping, its pretty much all thom and jonny doesnt have the solo like he did live, but it's still really pretty.

can anyone compare 'this radiohead style' to that of any other bands? i mean sam saying it's quite calming etc just wanna know who it sorta sounds like (though obviously radiohead are in a genre of their own:P), i wanna know more!!!! woo in a queue atm!

haha, you should see pitchforkmedia [who gave 2 of their extremely rare perfect 10.0 scores to radiohead] the past few weeks. they take even the slightest news and make an article about it, and make irrelevant links to the website, haha.

the only bands really comparable to them aren't very popular. sigur ros is similar in style, other than the fact they don't speak english and have 10 minute songs.
All I need sorta sounds like coldplay a bit.
well if it wasn't for "the bends" by radiohead, coldplay would be nothing, haha. rh were a huge influence on coldplay.

Bodysnatchers sucks
I love Radiohead, but this album is taking it's time to grow on me. i'm on my second play through now and the only stand out songs for are, Jigsaw Falling into Place and House of Cards.

rly? i thought bodysnatchers was pretty good. only problem is that it doesnt quite fit with the rest. it's like "electioneering" on ok computer. but i agree on "all i need". easily the best on the album. "weird fishes/arpeggi" is probably #2 for me.
my only even slight disappointment on the album was "videotape". don't get me wrong, it's really pretty and emotional, but i was expecting something incredibly epic. the live version was epic. jonny had this beautiful guitar solo, it really made the song. but it's all missing from the recording.

i've already stated this but i can't get over how amazing all i need and weird fishes/appregi are. both songs are just completely awesome. all i need has such a great feel to it & i think the instrument use on weird fishes/appregi is absolutely superb. listened to all the album now, but just keep listening to these 2 songs - they are great.

a year ago, thom and johnny [whom is a composer for the bbc] did weird fishes with the nazareth orchestra. ch-ch-check it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrKPrpOvfCI)
& all i need is my favorite. radiohead's best climax since karma police.

i lied before, its not my favorite album of the year (yet. however it could be if the bonus cd that comes in the box set is good). definitely #2 though. "all i need" is the best song they've done in a real long time.
and i hate it when people think they just do weird stuff like releasing their album like this for attention, but thats not what they want. they just did it as an experiment. whenever they're asked about it in interviews, they brush it off, it's a minor part in the album.
anyway, all the songs are at least good. "house of cards" and "faust arp" are good songs but they're surrounded by songs that are better so they kind of feel out of place.
