cant edit last post but im adding imformation.

Steven Gerrard was visibly distraught yesterday as he comforted a boy of 10 who ran into the side of his car.
As soon as he realised what had happened, the England star pulled up in his £175,000 Bentley Continental Convertible and rushed to help injured Jamie Hellawell.
One passer-by said: "He was clearly shocked. He was in tears as he crouched on the ground chatting to the lad until an ambulance arrived."
Another witness said: "He was very good with the boy. He was kneeling beside him and holding his hand throughout. He must have been there for about 15 minutes."

Jamie's leg was broken in two places. Last night Liverpool skipper Gerrard, 27, revealed he had been in contact with the boy's family.
He also plans to visit him in Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Liverpool.
Gerrard is believed to have hit Man Utd fan Jamie as he drove to the home of a friend in Birkdale, Merseyside.
Residents said it appeared the youngster ran out into the side of the Bentley as Gerrard slowed to turn left into a cul-de-sac.
The soccer legend immediately leapt from the driver's seat to help Jamie, who had been thrown to the ground.
Quick response paramedics gave the boy morphine to ease his agony until the ambulance arrived.
Jamie's grandfather Reg Rogan, 66, found him injured as he went to nearby Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic primary school to collect two of the youngster's cousins.
He said: "Steven was shocked and obviously very concerned.
"He held Jamie's hand and knelt down with him for quite a considerable time." A witness said: "Though I couldn't hear what Steven was saying, he was clearly comforting the boy.
"Before he drove off, my small son asked for his autograph. Steven took the time to speak to him even though he was so upset.
"He told him 'OK, but get out of the road'. He was obviously worried about his safety."
A woman who lives close to the accident scene added: "It certainly wasn't Steven's fault."
Jamie's mother Helen, 33, joined her son in the ambulance as he was taken to hospital. Family man Gerrard is married to Mirror columnist Alex Curran, 24. The couple have two daughters Lily-Ella, three, and one-year-old Lexie.
Gerrard's spokesman said: "Steven was driving very slowly when a young boy ran out and hit the side of his car.
"Steven comforted the boy until the paramedics arrived.
"He later attended a police station where he produced his driving documents and made a statement.

"He is distressed over the accident and has been in contact with boy's family to check his progress." Police confirmed they were investigating

Why do the press make such a big deal out of an accident?

It's like they're making Gerrard out to be Satan with a headline like; "Gerrard runs over kid of 10".

They could've put, "Gerrard involved in accident" or "Boy, 10, in Gerrard accident".

Gerrard never got ran over by a slow moving car though did he?

I think that the newspapers were a bit harsh on Liverpool fans, saying that Gerrard ran over the kid in full speed.

Papers make it sound really bad..
When in the whole story it says something like..

Gerrard was driving by a school, & a kid came out of nowhere.. Gerrard accidently hit him & busted his leg, but stopped, got out.. & stayed with him holding his hand until a ambulance arrived..
& as some of the parents were nurse's they were also stopping to help.

I think in the situation he was good to stay with the kid until the paramedics came. Other footballers would have just drove off..

Exactly!

Unless Gerrad was turning a corner at a "Slow speed" and the corner of the bonnet hit the boy.

At least he stayed with the boy and is in touch with the family.

What a horrible thing to say. Your first reaction is "I hope this doesnt affect him agaisnt Marseille tonight".. How about "I hope the boys ok" or something like that. You've got issues.

How? There is nothing wrong with saying that :S He knows the boy is OK, it has been said in nearly every report about the issue that he is OK but has broken his leg.

It wouldn't suprise me if the lad ran out intentionally just 'cause it was Gerrard. Saying that, it was probably just a accident...

Umm yeah OK, how horrible

Bit stupid running into the side of a car isn't it? Gerrard seems like a nice guy, he even cried while the kid was on the ground! :O

Hope the kids alright though.

Because that headline would obviously catch peoples eye wouldn't it, which the paper will want to do! The story inside makes up for the headline and I dont think Gerrard will come out of this with any bad publicity at all. Apprently Gerrard rang Wayne Rooney who got the kid a signed Man U shirt.

It was in fact signed boots by Rooney, Man Ure tickets to a game of his choice and wait for it..... a Liverpool shirt. ;)

No, you certainly need issues because I dont.

What I meant was, seeing that Gerrard didnt deliberately run him over, he was crying and was calming the kid down while he was clutching his leg in agony.

And seeing that the Match is on, I meant like will his sudden accident put a dent in his performances with Liverpool.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

It happened with other football stars such as Lee Highes, who jailed for 6 years after killing a driver whilst drunk.

Good on him, I'm loling because it actually is publicised as if he did it on purpose, they clearly have to state that it's a Manchester United fan to make the audience think "He knocked him down because he was a Manchester United fan" even though they did give hip a positive review of what he did in some aspects, though I still think there was no need to post what football team the young boy supported, it's just to publicise the story more.

Foe!
03-10-2007, 09:32 PM
I dunno why but I laughed how Gerrards spokesman summed it up..
he was driving 'Very slowly" and it was the boy that hit the car, not the car hit the boy, making it sound like the boy literally threw himself at the car lol

Not saying it was Gerrards fault anymore than the boys they were probably both at fault but it is kinda funny the words he choose

Good the kids ok tho
