edit: ontopic: nice layout, the brown bit makes it look bad, maybe use a light blue?

It's okay for your 1st. Try and use some different colours since the blue on the banner area and the dark peach colour don't go, try http://colourlovers.com/ it can help you alot, other than that it's very nice, well done.
