DNS servers are located all over the world. There is no specific place where the DNS servers are located.

Wasnt the internet set up for world defense or sumin, if one computer gets destroyed, the data will have allredy sent to another computer and in order to destroy it, you must destroy every computer connected?
Gosh lets see how many computers are/can be connected:
255x255x255x255 = 4228250625 Gosh, thats alot of computers connected :p
think we will be needing a longer IP address soon :p
So yea, there all over the world...

I think thats kinda what you mean?
The internet isnt based in one place, the internet is just a big network of computers connected.

I think the biggest DNS is at the CERN labs.....

But yeh there are loads of them but some are better than others

The net was set up for military and education use I believe.

Then came the domains with it, as it was just IP's in 1980 something

The queen was the first to send an email to one computer to another!

There is no main building where the server is held. It's all over the world.

Haha I read a joke once

It read: "Can I have the internet on a CD, I don't have a network card"
Also: "What windows you got?" "Double Glazing"

.L!nK.

Theres several for each company that does them.

e.g. Nominet do .net domains, they have a who.is database full of them.

Nominet deal with with .uk domains thanks. Also the net was set up for military, and the guy that created it, if I remember, sold the basic model for like £1,000,00 in todays money. Must feel like an idiot :P

Basic history of the internet (no dates):

Scientist link together a network each as important as the other and will all work if one is destoyed, they call them nodes

Scientists trade ideas on this basic network and the US army get Pd off and make their own which they call milnet

More and more peeps are getting conected to the internet (about 300 nodes)

Tim berners lee does his thing (Look below for more details as it is a major revolution in the internet)

Loads of people connect thanks to Tim (about 10,000)

More (about 100,000)

etc etc etc

What tim berners lee did:

First the internet before Tim everyone was using a different coding language, Tim decided to invent http (Hyper text transfer protocal) then html ( Hyper text mark up language). Then people needed something to get to a website so Tim invented URI which is the U(cant remember) resource indicator, nowadays called URL Universal resource locator. Then he created the first ever internet browser for people to view websites with. He then had to deicide what to call the internet so he called it WWW. Other ideas were the information mine (TIM) Mine of information (MOI meaning me in french) Or The world wide mesh but this sounded like mess. He also invented things like domain names ips etc

Above is a streamlined history of the internet.

Below is how a computer connects to the internet (alot of guessing)

Computer requests a domain name or IP
ISP searchs database for cached domain name if no search other DNS or
ISP checks if IP is one of their own, If not it will point it towards whatever ISP it belongs to.

+ the queen did not send the first email but she did send ONE of the first emails
