ANGRY teenage fans have been left stranded in Halifax after boy band McFly suddenly cancelled their sell-out Victoria Theatre gig.
Tearful fans as young as 15 have been left abandoned in town after travelling from across the country only to be told at 1.30pm today (mon) the Halifax section of the band's "Up Close and Personal Tour" has been cancelled due to illness.
One teeny bopper, Sophie Raistrick, 16, of Keighley, was dropped off in Halifax by her mum at 5.30am and had been waiting ever since, she said: "They told us it was cancelled out of nowhere and I'm just gutted. I'm so cold I can't feel my hands but I've got to wait until my mum finishes work to come and pick me up.
"I've been a fan forever and seen them 11 times before but just wish one of them could come and tell us themselves."
Alia Stansfield, 17, had travelled from as far as Blackpool this morning and was due to meet her heroes before the concert after winning a competition. She said: "I got here at 7am and am stuck until 11pm now before I can get picked up to go home.
"I had been looking forward to this for ages and just feel very betrayed and upset. It's freezing and I don't know where we can all go."
Tickets for the concert cost £24.50 and went on sale on August 18 with some fans queuing up over night to snap them up.
But despite selling over 1,800 tickets the concert was suddenly cancelled with a spokesperson for the band blaming illness.
16-year-old Emma Butler had a ticket months in advance and travelled by train from Newcastle to get to the gig today. She said: "I'm so angry. Even if our tickets get refunded who's going to pay for my train fare? This trip has cost a lot of money for nothing."
The Victoria Theatre were only told of the cancellation minutes before news leaked to the fans. John Sell, marketing manager, said: "We are massively disappointed, especially for all the fans. I thought it was a joke when I first heard."
But no one was more disappointed than Tasha Robinson, 15, of Luddenden Foot, an internet manager of Mcfly's Halifax branch. She said: "I met the guitarist Danny at a promotional thing last week and he promised he would wave at me at the gig.
"I wouldn't mind so much if he came and gave me that wave now. That would make everything alright."
I was just in town and found it funny how people were actually crying and starting fights because of it.
