Hey,

I was talking to Oli ([oli]) on MSN just now and neither of us know of a good web development Forum. There are sites like digitalpoint, etc but they don't interest me.

So I'm wondering, should I make a Web development forum? I know THOUSANDS of people have had this idea and it almost ALWAYS fails. But I'm actually thinking about it.

I was thinking if I did set it up, what about having 2 parts to the forum. One section for beginners and one for more advanced designers/coders.

This means people who are starting can get all the help (without the fear of getting 'flamed' or getting abused hurled at them by other members). they need from people that are around the same ability as theirselves - if not a little bit more advanced.
It would also mean the same for the more advanced designers/coders.

This forum would NOT be Habbo related and would focus solely on Web Development. Swearing would be allowed as the forum would be looking for a more maturer and generally older userbase.

Oh and also, unlike many other people that attempt to create a site like this. I'd make sure I had the funds available to support this site (to afford the vB, hosting, etc).

What's your views on this idea? Please only post your honest views and ideas.

Thanks,
Simon

I think this would be a great idea, as sites like WebDeveloper.com only have one section and it's mainly for advanced, whereas this would include people who are starting off.

Thumbs up :)

I agree; but could you name some dedicated to Web development for people around 14-18 years old?

Not a bad idea - except I might suggest you pass on the beginners/advanced sections solely because it might:

a) Intimidate the beginners into becoming more advanced/competant.
b) Cause the beginners to get less help because the "Advanced" users can't be bothered to go "help the noobs" with their "stupidity and whatnot" - you know what I mean?

And also a good Web Development Forum I use is www.codingforums.com (http://www.codingforums.com) - they are very helpful!

EDIT: What you might consider is doing something like CodingForums where Active Users with like 150+ Posts and that have been registered for more than like 3 months can view a sub-forum?

Maybe make like "Free VIP after 100 posts!" or "Free VIP after 10 referals!" to gain popularity? (: Oh and would you be buying Ad space on other forums?

Faliure as chris said theres loads about. Even when done by a bunch of 'senior' members it failed aka Lycan, Dentrafrice, Sygon etc. It just doesnt work, people dont join.

good idea simon, why not go for a IPB as they can look quite effective as WebDevelopment Forums.

I think it would work, because other sites could be quite scary for begginners.

Keep us updated!

Dont do a teen coding site, that will fail.

I would join a general web design site, that helps newbies to advance coders.

Its good but many people try and fail as you said.

Ide personally make it for kids 10-18.Like im only 12 and i like designing layout's and making website's etc, and it would be cool to be on a forum with other people who are around my age who do the same thing.

I think its a good idea,When you sell Mini-I-FM or what not you could buy the vB and hosting.

Tweebo is having a small Community/Support forum (Vb Based) in a mature format

Perhaps it could involve a few of theese ideas/Needs

Hm, this site would take a lot of planning as the idea of making it a teen site is split in the middle. Some people like the idea, some people don't.

Once I've finished my Homes System, I may go ahead with the Forum.

I reckon it would be good for teens, cause you could maybe have like a layed back discuss anything section too. If it was aimed at teens it would be more relaxed and wouldn't become like other web-development boards.

I personally wouldn't. Due to all the work you are going to have to do to beat DP, TFL etc. And other sites like http://www.teenbusinessforum.com/ etc. But if you are good on the marketing side, i guess it is worth a shot.

And if all goes badly, get couple of hundred members and sell ;]
