View Full Version : Habbo vs. Club Tropica

It appears that Habbo Hotel have caught wind of Club Tropica and are fighting back. They have begun removing 'ClubTropica' motto's, room names and even groups.
The group 'Club Tropica' was removed two hours ago by Habbo Staff because it is against the Terms and Conditions of Habbo for a commercial company to advertise on it. Now, they are correct. BUT, are Habbo Staff worried? Do they see the potential of Club Tropica? There are tons of people who advertise commercial companies, but Habbo does not seem to care..
It has also been revealed that an Ex-eXpert received this email this morning from Habbo Staff. Below is a snippet from the email...
Whilst here, it was reported to us that you'd started up a Habbo group
for a new community you're doing volunteer moderating for. As you're
probably aware, Habbo's Terms & Conditions prohibit any form of
commercial advertising so I'm afraid that all links and promotional
material have had to be removed from your group. Please don't recreate
it. You'll find that any professional company won't tolerate their staff
or volunteers spamming potential competitors as it's not good business
practice. Instead they contact the marketing department of the community
they wish to advertise on and pay the agreed rates for the required
advertising type.
Good luck and happy habboing!Want a full screenshot? Want proof? Go to www.TropicaForum.com (http://www.tropicaforum.com) :] Exclusives posted regularly!! :)

It's just T&Cs, they won't be worried because at the moment Sulake are worldwide, with a $77 million profit from 2006...
ClubTropica hasn't even opened yet.

Habbo are scared, I think, because they know they are serious - not just a couple of kids trying to make a few bob.

How can habbo stress to people . . .When they were the people who told us about it any way ?
Its abit stupid i think , But maybe they have realised that they are not going to get as much profits when this game is released !

Like above however the way the forum is going I can see in around a year and a bit the fight will really start to heat up. ;)
Oh forget that, Jaeh posted it on the forum, *lol*
As for Habbo being worried... Who cares? I doubt this ClubTropica will take off, its just hype i can't see it being 'amazing' as its just a chat room..

I'm not worried for Sulake, Clubtropica haven't even got two countrys up, let alone one, And the fact their getting Habbo customers to come onto Clubtropica shows alot, They can't find new users so they target popular forums posting aload of **** to convince us to move to their, And who ever does move to their are ''Noobs'' Must I say it. We all know this will be gone by a few months probally won't even be popular, Im getting a bit ****** of with all these advertising on Habbo, I haven't seen them advertise ANYWHERE else :l

I doubt Habbo is scared, I don't exactly blame them for removing the ClubTropica things its against their T&C also surely shouldn't ClubTropica be trying to advertise alot more than just on Habbo?

Hi,
Firstly, we are not advertising on Habbo only, your forgetting the reason ClubTropica is mentioned is because members of staff have moved across. We have a massive marketing campaign totally unrelated to habbo.
Secondly, we are not competing for Habbo's target Market. They are wanting 13-18 year olds, we are aiming for those who are too old to use Habbo, we are not allowing people under 16 to signup to our site, and some content will be restricted to those under 18 aswell. Sulake should not be scared, we are not attempting to "steal" their users.
Thirdly, we're not advertising anywhere else untill after the first month to ensure everything is working fine. This is common for all professional companies. Some leaks have been made on a couple of other websites too, the fact you have not seen them maybe because you only look at this website.
I hope this clears everything up!

Well duhh...
That's just like an ASDA employee fully endorsing Tesco within the ASDA store; it isn't professional and obviously, Sulake's main aim is to make profit; if their customers are being diverted to a new competitor's service, they are obviously going to reduce this by enforcing T+C's.

If the only reason it's being a bit hit on Habbo being of the staff why is all the sites bar the tropica fansites on your "featured websites" all Habbo releated and not other sites. Surely your putting them on because there advertising for your or talking about it, yet you said you've got a massive market away from Habbo.. I don't see any other sites which are talking about it. They've changed from a Habbo fansite to a Club Tropica fansite. There are plenty advertising and marketing avenues including our directors large user bases. We only want a few users (you guys) for the first month to ensure the site all works and we decided to let you guys hear about it first. :)

I think people are beginning to hate ClubTropica even though it hasnt opened yet, lmao.
Well, I say gl to it, but I wont be moving on from Habbo...
Even though its for over 16's, everyone underage will just sign up anyway, tbh age restrictions on sites dont even work since its not hard to fake your age, I remember signing up to Habbo on an old account when I was 9 years old :P
Sulake is already a well established company, and I doubt ClubTropica can just come along, steal all its users and say au revoir... It needs to build up a good rep before anyone really takes it as a real competitor.
I reckon its gonna be another IMVU, lol, it looks similar.
Anyway, I'll make a proper judgement when I actually see the game, I can't say Im not looking forward to having a look around :)

I think people are getting a bit ahead of themselves by opening fansites and forums already, even though the thing itself hasn't opened. They're obviously doing this because if clubtropica is successful, they'll be known to the staff and to the community

Personally, what Sulake are doing is deemed as acceptable in my opinion. Sulake have worked hard over the years to become a reputable company, even though some will disagree about how Sulake operate with perhaps they're excessive prices for credits, and extra services. User's have to realise that they those extra services aren't mandatory to buy, and are optional.
The majority of us enjoy Habbo Hotel, and to see some new community "ClubTropica", come in from no-where and then start advertising it throughout the mediums of Habbo Communities, including fansites such as Habbox Forum's, other fansites and even Habbo Hotel itself is rather preposterous, and unacceptable.
At least with Sulake, they do there market research and advertise through appropriate methods in order to attract new members to Habbo Hotel. ClubTropica are just source stealing, and targeting an existing audience! It shouldn't be tolerated.
You have to give Sulake empathy, imagine you owned a corporate company. You established your company with an image, and had a large capital of say 5million and growing! and had a reputable company, you had investors like pop-stars, and celebrities invest in your company and also advertise them selves in your company image. Then you find incompetent new community such as "ClubTropica" advertising on your ground, through your methods and aiming it through the Habbo community... would you tolerate it? especially if your profits started to be affected, even though Sulake aren't short of capital.
What ClubTropica are doing is unprofessional, I posted in another forum category here at Habbox intentionally registering to post my say about ClubTropica, and how I feel about it. They've even proclaimed that they've got x-Sulake office staff from the offices in London to join.
I have my faith in Sulake as they're well established, and that Habbo Hotel doesn't need to worry about this third party site. ClubTropica are trying to replicate themselves from the means of Habbo, and will most probably have similarities e.g. Credits. Just another money making company, taking advantage of venerable teenagers. This time I'll be keeping my distance.
I've also noticed how members such as Evolution, Impetuous/Callie, and other x-habbo users have formed ClubTropica. If you remember back on habbo when Callie was Hotel Manager, allot of favouritism occurred! Remember how Evolution became Hotel Manager for a week, little coincidence or what? Not really! Think of it logically

Obviously, before I start insulting your intelligence as you've tried doing towards me. Perhaps you may want to read more indebts, before you read along the lines briefly before insulting using petty terms, and a poor vocabulary . Sites that have invested in a MMORPG Client and Emulator must invest some form of money, either it's for a lingo developer or just a developer in Cold-Fusion, Java, C++ or what ever they've used as they're desired programming language.
That's going to cost, unless they've done everything themselves as a D.I.Y Job, that I highly doubt! Secondly if your planning a large release, exactly how many MMORPG Communities do, same with Sulake's "Habbo Hotel", they plan well in advanced doing market research, schematics, and so forth. Therefore market research and advertisement is the prime key to success to establishment. Even if the site isn't open, you still plan in advanced :P

I have to say that I agree with The-Macabre-One. What ClubTropica are doing is certainly a little underhand, but it's also very clever. From what I've heard, they have some investors who are giving them the money to start the company off.
As we can see, they're using existing forums for other MMOCCs such as Habbo Hotel to promote their new offering. As you can see around the forum and other forums, there is a quite a lot of hype surrounding it - and this is exactly what they want. They're advertising directly to their market, which is basically young adults who like using isometric chat sites. Forums such as HabboxForum and ClubHabbo are full of such people. Once the investors see how good the response is, they will be keen to invest more money as it will be evident that the market is there - let's face it, the main market is disgrunteled Habbo users at the moment. The extra money will allow for expansion and advertisements in more traditional media, which will give them additional outreach to people who don't use Habbo.
