Redirecting a whole directory and files?

How to I redirect a whole directory such as:

/forum/showthread?t=2 to /forum/index.htm
and same with every other file in there?

Erm, i dont think you'll be able to tbh,

cos if you redirect the whole directory to something inside the directory, it will try and redirect again and again and again.

And nothing would show up.
