I've got both and I've had so much fun with both of them. However, I haven't used my Wii for quite some time, its fun for a while but its novelty wears off quickly unless you buy different and unique games. Games for the Wii are still limited in comparison to the 360 and if I'm not mistaken the system with the most games currently out is the 360 so theres plenty of games to choose from. The 360 packs a much more powerful punch than the Wii graphically and in overall processor power, although comparing the two is tricky because they're both so different. Nintendo also still haven't sorted out the shipping and production problems they experienced back when it was first marketed, they managed to keep up with demand temporarily but most shops are now saying they won't be getting any new Wii stock in until xmas or new year, so it might be quite challenging to find one. :P
Not sure on the cheapest prices for each, if you can find a Wii in any shop, buy it, it wont be there for long (mere minutes). 360's are everywhere and usually boast a similar price wherever you go, deals for additional games and accessories are where you'll find the variations in price but that all depends on what games/accessories you want with the deal.
If money is no object and you enjoy slightly more traditional gaming (not to mention some of the most popular games on the market at the moment) I would go for the 360 but if you're looking for something a bit different and for the slightly cheaper option (despite being difficult to find at times) go with the Wii.
If you can find a wii then get one, I reccomend that you ring up game or whatever early in the morning to see if they have any. Your birthday is just after super mario galaxy which was given 97% by Nintendo magazine. But in the end it is your own personal preference what you prefer.

I recommend; if you're under 12 years of age or are amused extremely easily, go for the Wii - the novelty wears off extremely quickly.
If you love gaming, love extremely great graphics and a great variety of non-Mario based games then go for the 360.

Get a 360
Wii is a novelty and wares off.
Also if you dont like 360 you can sell it and buy a wii.
I'd buy a 360 first, because at least then it's a real gaming machine, I find a large amount of Wii games are party based which means the most fun comes from having like 3 or 4 friends over playing them, good games like Zelda and maybe Red Steel are there to play but they will get boring eventually and you'll be stuck with things like Wii Play, maybe Wii Sports
At least with the 360 you get a huge selection of games to play, they don't only focus on party styled gaming, you have some great FPS games (Call of Duty 4 and Bioshock), if you're willing to pay monthly you might be interested in one of the two MMORPGs that are available on the 360 (Phantasy Star Universe and Final Fantasy XI)
Plus just about every major sports game for consoles, amazing online, 2 new arcade games every wednesday (sometimes more, sometimes less, but you do have to buy the full version if you want it), normally like 5-6 demos a month but that's not exact, only depending on whether they're released or not
I personally think you should buy a 360 because it's alot better for gamers that are on there own and want proper online action
If you want a Wii you will be looking at alot of party games which could sometimes be a problem if you're an only child or have no friends
But it's up to you in the end so hope you're happy with what you pick xD

Its people like you who ruin gaming, its not about the age rating, the style of games etc its about the fun factor. Personally the 360 has too many pc like games for my liking, if I wanted to play FPS' then I would play unreal tournament or whatever on my pc. The thing is with wii games they are completely different to what you are used too.

but then the xbox 360 doesnt have any party games and thats wot happened with my ps2, my friends werent that great at normal games (well im just uber) and it got boring with me just winning, with the wii its different :)
NaughtyNemo is right, the wii has those fun party games, warioware etc. Then it has the awesome single player games, mario galaxy, metroid prime 3 and legend of zelda all of which have scored 95% or over.

You can buy a Wii, Remote and Wii Sports for £180 anywhere. :S
Wii = huge adventure games, fun multiplayer games, a new way to play games, a new experience, loads of extra features such as the virtual console and a lot of fun.
Xbox = Standard console but better, good graphics, good online, gears of war and halo 3.
And as I said before...
The novelty doesn't wear off of the Wii imo. People who say that just keep playing the same games over, so it seems that way. As with every console, a game will get boring eventually. In my opinion Wii games keep you entertained for longer than other console games. So, really, the novelty doesn't wear off at all. If you think it does then you shouldn't even own a Wii, or you should buy some new games and try some of the new features and channels.

The 360 does have party games, Raving Rabbid, Fuzion Frenzy 2, Hail to the Chimp (not released yet though) and in Japan they have Every Party, I would personally say games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are party games, even though only 2 people can play Guitar Hero at a time it is the type of game you can have a group of freinds over for and play as it was a party game
But the thing is party games get boring, they're good for a while but then they have no point, just doing the same mini games over and over again

If the Wii is only good when you have friends around then they do they have such successful single player games?

That's only true for most of the party games, you can play them on single player but it probably isn't as fun, the Wii still has Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Red Steel and more single player games that are very popular, those are the only ones I remember xD

Raving rabbids is rubbish on the 360, it was designed for the wii and its controls and they ported it over onto 360. Fuzion Frenzy is ok but compared to warioware etc its nothing. Guitar hero is good ill give you that but 3 is on wii and 360 so....
If a person has a decent spec pc then I would say get a wii because alot of 360 games are on pc or have similar games on pc. If they have a poor pc I would say get a better one or get a 360.

Raving Rabbids is just as good on the 360 as it is on the Wii, they are exactly the same game you just control it differently, Fuzion Frenzy sucks but who cares if it's as good as Warioware or not? When did I say "hey compare these the the Wii versions"
Liam said the 360 has no party games and I just listed some of the ones I know
And what does it matter if Guitar Hero is on both? Oh I'll use your "argument" against you, here you go, "guitar hero is better on the 360 because it was designed for real consoles not party consoles" (if you didn't know, I was being sarcastic)

Yea, a very fanboyish post, he instantly compares 360 party games to Wii party games when all I did was list them

Why cant I compare them? We are comparing consoles so we need to compare games too. My argument isnt being used against me because that argument makes no sense, YOU said guitar hero was a party game and now you are saying its not for party consoles
In all honesty, that's just a typical fan boy post.

Comparing games doesn't come into comparing consoles, recommending games does, comparing games is for people that say what type of games they are after, if he said "i'm looking for a console with good FPS games and adventure games" then you can compare games from each console, he never said he was looking for party games so no need to compare them, especially don't compare 2 party games that are COMPLETELY different and I said guitar hero can be classed as a party game but some people will disagree because game sites don't list it as one

So you want me to give reasons of why I'm giving reasons to purchase either consoles?
I suppose then you'll want reasons of those reasons that have reasons.

Its like me saying 'Buy a 360 if you are over 70'. Without reasons it means nothing, anyway I cba to post in this thread any longer im supposed to be doing coursework ^^.

You make me laugh, it's absolutely nothing like that - the Wii has more child-based and youth-based games [that involve Mario] that appeal to a younger audience.
I don't see a Countdown game for the 360.

***, it isnt appealing at a younger audience, its appealing at everyone. Playing 18 games doesnt make you 'hard' or mature, I would rather play a game of mario kart than something like project gotham, its just more fun (I owned an xbox and PGR 1 and 2). Anyway wii has its fair share of 'Adult' games. Resident evil 4, manhunt 2 etc.
I'd say your both right and wrong, the Wii could be like some TV shows that are about now, it was aimed at a younger age group same as alot of the games that come with it, but it appealed to older people as well as younger, like some shows (Fairly odd parents, Fosters home for imaginary friends and Spongebob)
All aimed at the younger age group but older people like them aswell, the Wii could be considered the same

on topic it depends how you game , if you're more into shooting crap and intense games a 360 imo :)

Tv to consoles is a pretty good comparison actually. You could say the wii is abit like BBC with kids programs and everything else but it tends not to be too adult although sometimes it has violent games (Programs in BBCs case) eg Resident evil. Where as the 360 is like a channel with loads of action programs.

Not once did I bad mouth the Wii, Wii games or anything the Wii did; I only said it's only suitable for a certain type of gamer.
Oh, and child-based game on the Wii;
Anything to do with Mario
Don't forget Scene It! for 360. Demo currently up on the marketplace.

Mario is not child based. Some of his games are quite hard for a 'child' and mario is just a bit cartoony so you think hes child based. I've seen many adults play mario games.

The people are right, after a few weeks the novelty of the Wii stops. If you have friends round LOADS then get a Wii, if you don't then get the 360. I love my 360. I find the Wii is just an occasional thing, like every other time i go round my brothers house i might play it for about an hour or so but ya know, its an occasional thing.
You are right the 'novelty' of the controller wears off but that doesnt mean it isnt the best control sytem by far out there, does it? Personally I am waiting for the next wave of FPS games on wii that make use of wii online and the wii zapper (mainly Resident evil:Umbrella chronicles and Medal of honour:Heros 2 just because of the 32 player online).

Is the wii zapper.
Adam just because it doesnt have a 12, 15 or 18 certificate it doesnt mean its aimed at children its aimed at EVERYONE. Also I am not a fanboy because last gen I bought all 3 and found the gamecube superior so bought the wii and I owned a Psp aswell as a DS but hated it so I sold it.

I know, but nearly half, or probably more of the Wii games are child-based games - certificate does mean something in some games; I wasn't talking about the certificate, I was talking about the content.

Mario is for all ages and always has been. Have you ever playes SM64? I seriously doubt your average 'child' could get anywhere near completing it. Just because it doesnt have guns etc doesnt mean its aimed at children, compared to most games mario is alot harder and requires alot more patience.

Wii's are very hard to get hold of now.
The man in GAME was telling a woman that up until a month ago they weren't moving, now your lucky to get a new one for Xmas.
I'd still say an Xbox, easily.
If you're fat get a wii, if you fit, treat yourself to a 360 :)
