Simply put, what resolution do you cater for while making applications/websites, without the page having a horizontal (sp?) scrollbar? I've got something I've been working on at 1152 x 864, but I'm thinking of making it go down to 1024 x 768 instead. Just thought I'd see what everyone else is doing before I made my decision :)

800x600, sometimes even smaller. Never set your default high.

Well i'll refrase myself. You dont cater for one size, such as 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600. You want to create a website which expands to different screen sizes, or if you're lazy, make it 800x600 and you wont go far wrong.

I agree with what Craig said, although when I design I always just start with an 800x600 so atleast it will fit the smaller sizes. When actually coding I usually use % rather than px for widths and stuff to avoid cross-browser/platform/screen size problem :)

Hope that helps.

EDIT: That said I tend to stick with an 1024x768 resolution myself as most web design and internet/tech sites out there (such as slashdot, arstechnica, etc. are designed for that size or bigger).

Best thing to do is design for all sizes. Use percents etc.
