View Full Version : Design company..

I was thinking about starting a design/coding company.. that I believe some of us on here could take far.
We could have a team of coders and a team of designers to work together to complete clients projects, coding and designing.
Would be a pretty cool thing to do.
Any ideas?
Yeh it would be a good ideas since your really good at coding.. i think you should go for it.. would it be free or you would have to pay for a script?

For the level of Calebs coding, paid.

It would be like a design company that you basically "order" a site from configured with its own CMS with features requested etc, thats why I need a design team (I can't design). All projects the design team participated in would receive payment.

I did start my own one of these. You really have to market them well to make them work.
I would be up for helping you with this as a designer. I use Photoshop CS3 and Fireworks MX 2004. Also have InDesign CS3 so I can do magazines, publications etc - I do have experience of doing this.
You have me on MSN, so we will speak when I get home (if you are there :P)

I may be interested, I need some spare cash.

Hey,
I own a domain (titleDesigns.co.uk) and if you guys wanted, I could get it back up for us to use if you want.
Of course, I have alot of experience in business and media, I have featured in the national press and on national radio. I am in the middle of raising £85,000 for my school, so I am good with finance.
So yeah, If you guys wanted we could use the domain :)

I have the domain splurstudios.com for sale if interested.
I also have experience within design and media, and I am currently working on a project as designer called 'Fusion' which is a magazine for young people where I live. This is a big project and is being presented at the National Creative Conferance in Birmingham at the end of the month.
I would also like to know about the payment of templates I make,
Darren

I think you should have say 3 coders and 3 designs.People can order templates/logo's/banner and scripts. If someone request's a coder website, the whole time works together and splits the money depending on how you helped.
Ive always wanted to do this but i didnt have time, if you set it up ide love to help!

That will help me keep it up, if you do not have any examples.. I am sorry but you don't stand a chance.
Also, the payment.
It would depend on how many designers worked on the project, also it would depend on how much work was put into the project. Example:
Designer A - 10% of the work
Designer B - 90% of the work
Designer A is not going to get near as much as designer B. We would have to decide as a team what the percentage would be.

We thought about doing the payment this way:
Say:
Designer X designed the layout. - 45%
Coder B coded the layout. - 45%
Each designer gets 45% of the pay, with 10% going to the company. That 10% of each project would pay for server costs, expenses, and to different departments/me.

I'll be happy to help as a designer & low level coder, although it would have to fit with my life + I would only design somthing if I could, EG I wouldn't accept a habbo theme design mainly because mine suck.
What I mean is as it's not a full time job I'm not going to take on every job the company gets, and I'm not going to spend my friday night trying to finish something for saturday morning, I'll only take on what I want when I want sort of thing, so it's completely upto you if you want to add me to the team, you could always have me as a "sleeping designer", on top of your main designers.

I agree with that, itinerary:
- Get name
- Get designers
- Design / Code site
- Project System**
- Begin marketing plan stage 1.
** Project System:
The project system would be used by the designers, coders, clients, and administrative team to:
Assign projects/tasks to designers/coders.
Allow the client to see progress on their project
Show administration which designers/coders are doing the most work (task wise).
Integrated with PayPal IPN for admin's to issue Payments to staff.

The PHP/Script design part of the company will be a major part too, we just need to figure out how that will integrate into the design aspect of it too.

I've tried starting a fresh with Darren, and I'm not bringing up the past here. But you shouldn't implicate the company with heads & leaders.
2 Directors you should have.
You as the lead coder - director
Another (whom you trust deeply) lead designer - director
complicating the staff & team with leaders, will give them advantages
and chance to discredit us other designers.
• Web design
Web design includes coding Darren, which i've seen you ask others to do.
But i'm just saying dont introduce leaders etc as it will complicate and sure as hell cause arguements & situations
which usually lead to firing/quitting

Yep, but let me say this again but more.... "different".
You get a bucket of sand, and you make your castle.. it falls down and you are left with a pile of sand. You flatten it out and you get more sand, and put on top of it, it falls again.
Each time you repeat this, the foundation gets higher and higher, until finally your sand castle is high enough to survive the tide.
Sorta..
