I was recently reading about the Nimrod Plane and discovered according to the BBC website that they are from the 1960's. Now I don't get why a country like ours is still using 47 year old Planes which are having all sorts of problems. So should we update our military or is it pretty much useless nowadays because Trident will be the force that would ultimatly save us.

I personally think the billions we give to the EU should go to, updating the army, navy and airforce, also updating Trident, building new hospitals and schools and lowering taxes.

Aren't we getting like 50 euro fighters to replace them soon?

I'm not sure but aren't Eurofighters small jets and not big warfare planes?

How could they update all that but lower taxes unless they used inflation?

We have the second largest military expeniture in the world but we're still outdated, at least we're getting some F-35s in to replace the old Harriers which are totally outdated.

Due to so much money, they could do as I said, then take some money off taxes as they would have some left over, then annually the money that would of went to EU could lower taxes.

Yet I can see the Planes are very old and are what i'd expect in the early Cold War to be protecting me.

Our soldiers are the best trained in the world, i think they should be using the best vehicles and equipment in the world.

The nimrods are more to gather infomation where as the eurofighter is a deffensive plane.
I do agree they should be upgraded. But i think that the MoD is actually trying to use UAV's instead of these. It is better in some ways as they dont need to risk personals life but then they are harder to control and in my opinions humans are better at flying a plane when they are in it then out of it.

Even though they're untrained as whatever. We have the RAF, the SAS, the Navy etc.

I think on expanding is totally down on if people are willing to join the military. On updating it, then yes, we should.
