Have you seen this commercial (http://www.visit4info.com/static/advert_pages/38944.cfm?back_page=advertiser_pages/RemingtonHairCareRange.cfm)? Well it may only be showing over here in England, but go look at the link and watch it. I was shocked when I first saw it and now every time I see it I want to throw something at the telly. Ok I get it if you‘re a company that sells make-up or beauty products you want to use the prettiest people you can find, it just makes sense, but this ad actually has the tag line of “It’s what’s on the outside that counts”
So not only are they saying “it doesn’t matter if you have a good personality, you can be a complete ******* as long as you look good” they also imply that it doesn’t matter if YOU think you look good, as long as OTHER people think you look good, cuz that’s what’s important.
I was DISGUSTED. As if there isn’t already too many commercials on TV, ads in magazines, on billboards, on bus stops, on the internet, in the newspapers, on product packaging, etc that shove unattainable airbrushed, photo shopped, implanted people in our face everyday, they had to go that one step further.
Shame on you Remington, shame on you.

Ahahaha that's genius, there's another one as well with two brothers that has the same message. I think it's hilarious, and it's true as well. You can say that "it's what's on the inside that counts" as much as you like but people will always prefer to look at and be around pretty people.

Narcissism is taking over the media, thats shocking though, its the slogan at the end that pushes it over the top.

that is awsome, well true though.
Good looks are important, and people are becoming more obsessed with looking good. The advert exploits this, as they are supposed to do. I can see where you are coming from though, I suppose.

if two people were going for a job interview,
both had similiar personalities, both had similar grades, except one was far better looking than the other. the better looking person would get hired.
realityyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eusa_whis

Its what the media wants today, the only time they want less physically appealing people is when there is a scandal or human interest story there, any other time it will be the "beautiful" person, you cant really do anything about it unless the media chooses to or there is enough change in the audiences view to warrent a change.
To add, this advert is aimed at mostly women, by showing this, they are saying, if you use Rimmington, you will be beautiful, which is what the majority of the women audience wants

It's some droop with lanky hair and a chin that looks like it's gonna take a dump. Hardly inspiring.
I see what you mean but I don't understand what we can do it about it, also i thought it was quite funny the way you said "Shame on your rimmington" at the end, as if theyre a person on here :P
Anyway, as people have been saying, it is what the world is like today. Back in the old (and I mean old) days, of heros and knights, if you were the strongest, you would succeed. Now, it's if your the best looking. It will change over time.

Sorry cant remember that complete quote but;
At 20 you spend time looking after your self and looks and worrying about what others think
At 40 you stop caring about what others think and give up.
At 60 you relise no one cared about you anyway?
Think its something like that. :]

I think that's the stupidest commercial ever! I've never seen it but I think they are giving the wrong point of view. Imagine children who watch that. You're not teaching them anything. Wow.

Yeah it is it's teaching them reality, something which the vast majority of people have no idea about.
