I've seen heaps of people doing this, and I know it has to do with forwarding ports, but whenever I try, it never works. I'm running a xampp setup on localhost, but how do I get it to be displayed onto the web?

When you make a Host file on your account, make the type:

Host Type:
DNS Host (A)

Make sure the IP address it shows is correct as well, and not just a network IP address or something, your actual computers ONLINE IP address.

I've got a D-Link DSL-504G router, so I have access to forwarding ports... I don't want to use Hamachi, simply because I don't want to deal with virtual networks, I just want it to work.

@iUnknown: Which hosts file?

Unsure about opening them... You can forward them, however.

Sorry, I'm aware what the Hosts area is, actually poked around no-ip (was so flustered with trying to get modem to work :P)

What ports do we have to forward if we use the G series?

Ok. My Quick Guide, Cos i do this alot for my friends,

http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

Download Xampp and install it,

Open Xampp Control Panel and run Apache and MySQL then click Explore then click Htdocs, This will open where you store the files for people to see, Modify the index or just delete it, Next just go to http://localhost/ and check if it works,

Then port forward/Open ports 80 this will allow users to connect to your local host documents,

Next load up No-Ip
Get from Downloads.com
Then make sure you have registered a No-Ip domain on the No-Ip Console make sure it's your IP NOT 192.168.1.2 or anything like that
Check Ip Here http://ipchicken.com

Then if you have port forwarded right and no-ip and xampp are running people who connect to your NO-IP address will view the files currently in that folder
