So I live with my dad and brother. It annoys me so bad though because I feel my dad is too protective of me even though I turned 18 about a month ago its even worse now because I quit my course at college because I realised it was not the career for me and my dad thinks i'm not going to do anything with my life but I have told him I want to go back to college but he still doesn't listen its not like I quit my course and I didnt have plans at least I decided what I accually wanted before I left. He got me so angry last night he wouldnt stop getting on at me so I went to bed early and I was so close to walking out I just wanted to get away from him. Is anyone elses dad the same? Are they constantly on your back?

He's just looking out for you. I know you don't agree with what he's saying but just get your next college course sorted or whatever you're going on to and he'll see that you are actually getting on with it. The problem is likely to be that you at 18 think you can handle all this stuff yourself and he still wants to be there for you and protect you, because he'll be feeling that he's losing you. I know because I've seen it happen with my older sister and my parents, and no not all dads are the same - you're lucky to have one who cares that much.

Both my parents are like in a way, protective, but they would allow me to do things like go out late, as they trust me, or stay round someone's house they would trust i go to bed no later than 12:00am
Of course though, i don't :D

My Dad lives in america because my parents got divorced and hes in the U.S air force etc. hes in Iraq atm so i never even speak to him. I've spoken to my step mum today to ask her for ma xmas present n stuff so yeah.

and i don't think that all Dads are like that.. step dads are bad though. i hate my step dad atm. hes so sly. so yeah im sure your dad will be proud of you once he knows where your going in life. =]

Subconsciously they are the same because it's their instinctive duty to protect their immediate family.

All parents are kinda over-protective in a way I guess.

I think he's just trying to do what's best for you & your future. He's looking out for you & I think you should be very happy that you have a father who wants the best for you.

My dad lives in USA he is total opposite lol, completely laid back, lets me do what I want.
He will only ever advise me on what he thinks I shouldn't do or should do, but he wont be like "dont you do this"

Neither is my mum to be honest, my friends always said I had to much freedom. But I am older now so my parents 99% of time treat me as adult so its all fine.
