I'm stumped. I Want to be a spread around developer, but I don't know what languages to go with. I'm steering away from: Java/Blitz/Lingo.
But which language should I do?

What type of languages are you thinking of?
Like PHP, ASP e.t.c.
OR Visual Basic e.t.c

Well, I Know some HTML & CSS.
and I want to be mainly into Game Development.
I'm a Linux user, so i'd need the program to code the language to be Linux
released.

Pascal, possibly? Quite a dated programming language. Once you know one, you can almost apply it to any other language. Many languages are easy to intergrate with other languages (once you have the basic understanding). So basically what I'm saying is: it's up to you to choose a language, as once you know one language you can learn many.

Generally if you're going to be a game developer it's C/C++ and some Assembly if your developing games for compiling, perhaps C# and XNA etc for Xbox 360.
If you want a web game you can use Java etc, what type of language do you want? OOP/Functional??

Why not Java, its easy and a good starting point for Oop programming. Plus skills you learn with it can be applied to a great number of additional languages without any really learn much additional other than a few syntax and language changes.
If avoding java, Vb is painfully simple (not that much fun becuse of it, since most stuffs pretty monotonus to do), or php (which is what i started with )

if i were you, i'd go where not many people go to the more complicated languages to be different and also you will get more requests!

That, or learn the easy languages, apply them to the harder one, and end up actually getting good at programming. And i mean that of a general term, if you can only code in a set few languages your really not likely to get much work. Most decent programmers, should not only know a number of languages but also be able to pick up new ones as they go.

PHP is a good start
im not quite good at it but
when looking at other coding thats open source you learn alot
i watched loads of html coding turned out great success
now since everyone has moved on to php im learning through it
but its not quite as simple
i would say
HTML/css = Web Pages
PHP/C++ = Applications or non online games
Javascript,Java,Flash, shock wave are online game type coding skills

Stop typing like that, it's making you look like an idiot.
If you want to learn how to create a basic good standard website then learn:
XHTML and CSS.
If you want to create a more advanced website look into:
Javascript, PHP or ASP.
If you want to work with desktop languages look into:
C++, C#, etc.
For desktop proramming languages I advise you to learn languages that can run on their own without an OS rather than a language such as Visual Basic.

Simon, Isn't VB microsoft developed and not designed for Linux?
Simon, Isn't VB microsoft developed and not designed for Linux?
Yeah, that's what he's saying above :)
It really depends what direction you want to go in. If you want to go for web technologies, I'd definitely say PHP, as it's a very versatile language, and will run on an array of different platforms. As for desktop applications, I'd have no idea - not an area I've delved into, unfortunately :(
