Bah, I can't find anywhere to put this...I'd of thought there would be some sort of 'Employment' section.

How are you planning to be a pilot?

This applies for all you wannabe pilots, or anyone who knows anything about the subject in hand.

Basically, I'm desperate to be a pilot. I can't find a way to get into the profession! I've tried CTC Wings but they say I'll need to live in New Zealand for 12 months!

It's not just as simple as going to an airport, asking for a job and them telling you to read a post-it note.

Also, I know about Air Cadets but can't/don't want to join with them.

If you have a spare 70k you can go to the Oxford Aviation Training (OAT)

They have a special loan for training pilots.

I am also trying to search around for one :P

Find somewhere else to get sponsorship, or simply go get your PPL and build up CPL and ATPL and then apply to be a pilot. You need to be prepared to pay out quite a bit of money for both routes really. Air cadets would be really good as they give you free flying lessons and then you become a pilot for free.

Yeah, Air Cadets would have been great. I just don't have the confidence to go, really. I mean, I'd go with my friends but he's not into that sort of stuff. I think I'm too old too, I don't know though lol.

That's another problem too, money. :(

Pay my own way, proberbly at OAT.. I know it's suppost to be rubbish, but at the end of the day its 18 months of your life and then you end up with a full type rating and licence.. Then you get a number of airlines offering you jobs, including Ryanair ;)

You know this OAT?

Do they sponsor you if you have no flying experience at all? Can't seem to find
anything that specifically says this on the website.

I think so, not too sure..

A PPL is always handy, but i'm sure OAT will take you under their wings as it where if you have no experience.. You just have to prove how much you really want it and that you'll aim high etc :p

1. how old are you?
2. you cant join air cadets if over 18 but can over 12.
3. air cadets is fun, you get to do alot like shooting, flying and free airshow tickets.
4. the hardest part about joining air cadets is the FIRST night. after that they will start to like you and thats it.

JUST JOIN AIR CADETS. AT 16 YOU CAN GET A PILOT LICENCE FOR FREE.

I'd like to NOT go to air cadets if possible, but I will if I absolutely have no other chance.

I'm liking the look of the OAT thing though, and just ordered the brochure.

Even if this thread was about FS, I have the right to post if I want, that's what the forum is for? I don't know you, haven't been here long but I'm sure you wouldn't like it if people said that about you with whatever you keep yapping on about. It's quite funny how you call us 'you people' as well, if we're not normal.

I bet you're one of those OMG GIMME HABBO I CANT LIVE WITHOUT IT LULZ type of person, so how would you like it if we called YOU 'you people'? huh? NO, you wouldn't.

Think before you post. :)

Thanks for the idea guys! I've ordered the free brochure from OAT and hopefully it's coming through the post in the next five days or so. I think I'd rather go to Oxford than have to live in New Zealand for a year! (CTC Wings).
