Do you REALLY have any MUSIC knowledge?

As many of you know, I study at music college thus I have put together a short extract and would like some of you to analyse it, and we will see how much you really know about MUSIC. This took me several minutes in Sibelius and is only low level graded theory.

Being unable to read sheet music does not mean you have no music knowledge. I can't read sheet music but I'm sure I could tell you some things about music that a lot of people on here couldn't.

I shouldnt of gave up the piano at grade 1 lol. Erm I can read it, I could play it, but I couldnt explain chords and crap, I play by ear mainly, reading sheet music isnt one of my best talents.

People who are trained in an instrument/music are usually far less creative than people who teach themselves. I can read sheet music, but it means nothing.

Don't know much about SATB (yet) but here goes...

1) In short score soprano and tenor notes point upwards, while alto and bass notes point downwards
2) If parts cross a lot it’s better to write them in open score
3) In open score the tenor part is written an octave higher than it sounds (in treble clef) to avoid many ledger lines
4) Avoid certain consecutives

I know the first 3 are kind of obvious, lol.

PS: Apologies if my writing is difficult to read. The text after "see score" says "Ext. Roman" which refers to a method of notating chords where you use the casing of the numerals to indicate whether it's major or minor. I wouldn't call that lower grade theory - lower grade theory teaches the basics like reading music, scales and key signatures where you are incredibly spoon fed. Grade 6 and above introduce questions based on excerpts. Expect to comment on melodic decoration, orchestration, harmony, intervals, chords, phrasing, modulation etc.

u can have alot of varying in reading music... all the instruments people play.. most of them have different notes and styles of music to be read.

and also... why is the pass mark 30%-80%? if u get 100% u fail? :s

I don't understand the pass mark either. Also, the excerpt wasn't just asking you to read the music.
