[feels my duty]

im not sure about your brit's definition of indie, but here's what's going on in our american indie scene. some of the most famous/popular indie albums include ones like;

"in the aeroplane over the sea" by neutral milk hotel
"daydream nation" by sonic youth
"loveless" by my bloody valentine
"funeral" by arcade fire
pretty much everything by pavement
"turn on the bright lights" by interpol

and lots lots more.

but my favorites include [not including the ones up there]:

"chutes too narrow" by the shins
"good news for people who love bad news" by modest mouse
"who will cut our hair when we're gone?" by the unicorns
"how it feels to be something on" by sunny day real estate
"broken social scene" by broken social scene
"illinoise" by sufjan stevens

& a million more.

amaaaazing album :]

ditto, ditto, ditto.

my second favourite album of all time, in fact i may love it just as much a 'return of saturn' (my favourite, duh). from start to finish it's absolutely gorgeous, all 11 songs are AT LEAST an 8 out of 10 for me, 'untitled' never ceases to give me goosebumps <3. i think it's my favourite song ever.

so yeah, in sum if you haven't heard buy it now (or download, whatever your choice).

They're not even by the same people; 'Chutes Too Narrow' was by Jesse LeDoux, while '37 Everywhere' was designed by Jason Sho Green.
I'll probably get both of those albums anyway, as Punchline do some good stuff.

I can't stand british 'indie.' It's so bland (the majority) and samey. And most of the popular 'indie' isn't even 'indie' as in 'independent.'

Some stuff that hasn't been mentioned and is 'alternative/indie/britpop';

Radiohead - In Rainbows. To be honest, this is the best album of the year. It is so amazingly good that even after 30 plays it hasn't worn off and still is amazing.

Radiohead - The Bends & Radiohead - OK Computer are their most famous and my 2 second favourite Radiohead albums, both really good.

The Verve - Urban Hymns. Just an overall great album. Some absolute classics (Bittersweet Symphony, Drugs Don't Work, Lucky Man, Sonnet) and some other class tracks - Catching The Butterfly, Weeping Willow & an overall great album.

Razorlight - Up All Night. Rather good album, great vocals by Johnny Borrell and the band flows so well in the album. Favourite tracks from this are 'Up All Night', 'Stumble & Fall' and 'Golden Touch'.

The Wombats - A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation. Really fast upbeat album with great songs. Moving To New York, Lost in the Post & Kill The Director being my favourites.

The Enemy - We'll Live & Die in These Towns. Great debut album from the Sheffield lads (and yes, they are young!) Favourite tracks - We'll Live & Die In These Towns & You're Not Alone.

More to follow once I get back from training.

You know what's funny?

as indie of an album as you can possibly get.

Radiohead - The Bends & Radiohead - OK Computer are their most famous and my 2 second favourite Radiohead albums, both really good.

is the least indie an album could possibly be [labelwise]. Capital/EMI is HUUUUUGE.

not that any of these are bad albums. OK computer is probably my 2nd favorite album ever. However, if you're going to call anything by radiohead strange and incredibly original, it would be Kid A.

But yarrrrr, most of the albums I mentioned before are indie epics. especially "in the aeroplane over the sea" and "daydream nation."

if you're feeling daring and want some more "out there" stuff;

"yankee hotel foxtrot" by wilco
"blueberry boat" by fiery furnaces
