They are readily available in France, I mean 100s in stock in my local supermarket.

Yes, the french ones may work, but if i was you id play it safe and just order one for when they come in stock or something.

it WILL work.
They are the same consoles and remotes, the Wii has a language option remember? Its a EUROPEEN console, therefore the remote will work.

But there for certain regions.

You cant get a US remote with and english console.
