US, December 6, 2007 - The Wii is a pretty slick system in many ways, from the small and understated proportions of the console to the minimalist yet powerful Wiimote. In our minds, its only really glaring aesthetic shortcoming is the fact that the Wiimote and Nunchuck are tethered by a wire that gets in the way during gameplay and makes storing the controllers a hassle. Many have debated why Nintendo didn't extend the Wii's wireless capabilities to both controllers, and there have been rumors from time to time that Nintendo is considering launching a wireless option.

Today, IGN can exclusively reveal that Nyko will beat Nintendo to the punch with a wireless Nunchuck alternative. Set to make a public debut at CES next month, Nyko's Wireless Nunchuck will mirror most aspects of the first-party model but will finally cut the cord between the controllers.

Nyko's Wireless Nunchuck will employ 2.4-GHz wireless to communicate with a receiver module that jacks into the Wiimote's usual Nunchuck port. As the pictures suggest, power buttons on both the receiver and Wireless Nunchuck will turn the connection on and off.

In terms of gameplay, the Wireless Nunchuck should function just like the first-party option, as Nyko looks to be remaining true to Nintendo's general layout and button locations. Pricing and final release information will be announced at CES, so until then, enjoy these exclusive first pictures and start looking forward to even greater freedom in Wii gameplay.

I don't see the point off it, there's enough wire already

Very interesting idea they have there. Surprising Nintendo didn't do one originally. Just the bad things about this are because of its new design and the addition to the wiimote it won't fit in any peripherals (zapper, other gun shells, wheels, sports kit etc.)

i imagine if/when nintendo makes one they'll make it smaller so that the wireless bit will still fit in zappers ect.
