View Full Version : Developing Insomnia

This started happening about 4/5 months ago during the summer holidays. Like most people, I would stay up late (2am, at latest 6am), then sleep till about 2pm the next day, the only problem is, I can't sleep in till that late (I feel too lazy and have to get up or I'll feel worse later on), so basically, I'm staying up late and waking up early. The thing is, this wasn't a problem until I started back at school again, I always tried to have a nap when I came home, and felt better afterwards. But now its getting worse, I wake up more times than I can count during the night, and end up staying up an hour or so trying to get back to sleep. When I do eventually wake up, I just feel like crap, and really can't be bothered to do anything, I can't even have a nap during the day.
I've already searched about treating insomnia and the main way is sleeping patterns etc. I've taken pills (artificial and natural) to help me sleep, but they haven't worked. I've tried exhausting myself, but that hasn't worked either. Basically everything I've tried has failed, so I'm wondering what do you guys do/use to help you sleep, I'll try anything.
Eventually I will have to see a doctor about this if it continues any longer, but I want to at least try to recover before I have no choice, so any suggestions welcome.

you have to retrain your brain and your body. This happened to me, exactly the same. i resolved it by going to bed at like 7PM and getting up for school at 7AM.

sure i didnt get to sleep right away but i read books and stuff and ended up dozing off at 9ish.

Try reading in bed. I hardly ever sleep early (I go to bed at about 4 onwards generally) but last night I was reading and even though it's a great book it really did tire me.

Books always tire me, like Tom. Whenever I can't sleep I read for like half an hour and my eyes die on me.

I understand what you guys are saying, sadly, I've already tried reading, I did it for about a month when my dad found me awake at 5 am, he told me the exact same thing. I, like my grandmother, always feel more refreshed after reading a book. I can try it again, but it was hard last time and I'm not sure if it want to go through it again.

I have a case of Insomnia.
I had to see a "shrink" etc. I was reccomended, yes this will sound very very cheesy, or whatever. But he reccomended meditation. Starting from 5 minutes,
then going on to 10, 15, 20, every 3 days.

That's worked a load for me.

I have tried meditation before, but it was only for stress in exams and such, I'll have a go with sleeping and see if it works ;)
