Right. I want to try and find out about the whole "website coding" idea and see if I can actually do it (I'm pretty sure I could).

I'm just not sure exactly what "coding" means. Say for example I have a layout that is just a single .PNG file, does coding it simply mean slicing each little section and then placing them all in the correct places?

And if I were to go about doing this, would I be able to use a programme which I already have called Namo Web Editor? In my mind, I would go about it by creating a table with a different cell for each individual piece of the jigsaw, if you like.

So, have I got the right idea, am I close, or am I just barking up a completely different rainforrest :P?

Cheers :).

LOSE THAT THOUGHT RIGHT NOW.

Yes, you sice the image into lots of different images BUT never code them using tables ;) Do a google search for "XHTML/CSS Coding" or something. That should explain the best way to code a layout ;)

What he said, don't use tables. Use DIV's that are styled using CSS. Much easier once you get the hang of it, and much better too. :)

Then learn PHP :]

I would not reccomend using Namo Web Editor, it has a cheezy name.. Web Editor.

Try to get something like Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Hehe. I only have it because a friend of my mum's who is a Web Developer, gave me it :D. It seems to be quite good anyway.

Edit: Bah, on Google, everyone is just offering the service. I found one little turorial that was basically showing me how to make red text :l.

If I just continue with the chart method, what's the worst that can happen?

Try this, or something along those lines:

If you code in tables theres a good chance it wont be aligned right in IE

I had this problem

Then i started coding in DIV's but couldn't get them to expand..

Hmm.. maybe they dont..

DIVs expand, you just have to code them right.

Here's a tutorial on how to make expanding content boxes using DIVs and CSS, but some of the links don't work anymore.

Done.

That means nothing to me.

To start Use Div's and position them absolute you can drag them to where you want

Just to see how it works

You have to keep everything aligned with the stylesheet

Dreamweaver does alot of this for you.

BUT you have to learn to use margins and not position:absolute

This probably just confused you even more lol

But if you search Div positioning on google you may get some good results.
