Two light aircraft have been involved in a fatal mid-air collision, Leicestershire Police have confirmed.
The incident occurred shortly after midday. All incoming flights are currently being diverted from East Midlands airport in Leicestershire.
One of the two planes landed safely at East Midlands Airport and all three people on board were uninjured. The other plane landed near Blithfield Reservoir in Staffordshire, where there are believed to be fatalities.
"The incident involved a privately-owned light aircraft which performed an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport," a spokeswoman reported. "The airport is following its full emergency procedures and emergency personnel are on site. The airport runway is currently blocked and traffic is being diverted while emergency services undertake aircraft recovery."

Two people are feared dead after a mid-air collision between two light aircraft.
One plane, believed to have had two people on board, crashed in Staffordshire.
The second aircraft, containing one person, landed safely at East Midlands Airport.
"At this stage we believe that two persons have lost their lives," a police spokesman said.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said the crash happened at around 12.15pm near Admaston, between Uttoxeter and Stafford.
The field, which has a farm nearby, remained sealed off while specialist investigators carried out examinations.
The Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is taking the lead in the case.
All incoming flights were diverted from East Midlands Airport in Leicestershire after the incident.
The runway was blocked and full emergency procedures were carried out following the landing by the privately-owned plane.
The airport was later fully reopened.

I heard one plane was from "the lake district" if that's true it's either Barrow or Carlisle. If it's Carlisle I'm worried, I hope it's not G-JLIN or Delta Whiskey...
