View Full Version : Do you think this will ever happen?

We had a discussion about it earlier in science

Take about 10 willing people
Put them onto a space shuttle
Send them off to Pluto (this will take about 100 years)
But inorder for them to get there they will have to keep producing babies and for them to have a baby and so on until they finally get there, then do it to get back.

Do you think this will ever happen ?

I doubt we'll go to Pluto, its extremely cold.

Why would it be sick ?

Why would it be sick ?
Wouldn't imbreeding fall into place here? You send say, 4 people, at one point they would have to have sex with a brother or sister, also, that baby would have to learn what to do and train for a landing, which they simply won't be able to do on a shuttle.

Just send an HD recording camera on a robot stolen from Japan.

No.

Space shuttle's speed is 17,500mph
Minimum distance of Pluto from the Earth is 2,600,000,000 Miles

Meaning it would take 148572 hours, which is 6191 days, which is 17 years.

Therefore they wouldn't need to reproduce. Plus supplies, water, food, fuel would run out.

Plus why would they want to go to Pluto, which isn't even a planet, then come back again?

I doubt they'd have enough power or food to get there. Be rad anyway!

Oh lol 17 years sorry, Ergh...why not go to Pluto ?

Because there is nothing of significance on there. It's just a rock. If we want to find anything about dwarf planets, we might aswell go to Ceres not Pluto. And it'd be a waste of money?

Pluto's still a planet in my opinion (I am a rebel :P). If it was still a planet, there would have to be about 10 other planets to join out system, but meh. Why would you need to go to Pluto?

Why not go to Pluto ?

Be the first people on Pluto, that would be awesome

No, it will never happen. You'll need water, food and oxygen for 200 years, how are you gonna get that?

17 Years, Im sure they could actually do it...

Ergh Dumbo. Is there anything stopping them from taking a bigger shuttle?

Why would it?

"Wow, we stood on Pluto for 5 seconds."
"Now what?"
"We go back?"
"I guess."
"Well that was a waste..."
"Yeah."

Plus we already have a spacecraft going to Pluto, so there's no need.

And a bigger shuttle would need years to build, test, equip etc.

You said 100 years in your first post? :S

Even if it is for 17 years, thats 34 years altogether. Still don't see how you're going to get food, water, oxygen and fuel to last that long. Don't even mention Sunshine!

Oxygen they can recycle with a filter or something, water they can probably do the same. Fuel would probably wouldn't be needed or something, it'll probably get gravity assists or something to speed it up, but food, there's no way around trying to store 34 years food in a shuttle.
Light takes 3.8 hours to travel from the sun to pluto at a speed of about 670 million miles per hour, so there is light, and even if it took 17 years for light to travel, there would still be light. But due to the extreme distance, there will be very, very little light.
And the sun wouldn't dissapear, we're billions of miles away from other stars, yet we can still see them in our night sky.

Rofl. Imagine they spend 17 years going to pluto right, and then they realise that it was a complete waste of time, 17 years. Then another 17 years to go back. Ill just chill around in space for ever, seriously.

Huh? I said the bit about Sunshine meaning the film. Where they have to travel to to sun to reignite it because it's aparrently dieing. Which is highly impossible.

I suppose, but I still say it is not possible at the moment. Maybe in the future.

How are you going to chill around space when theres no oxygen? I'd hate to be lost in space, I'd go back to Earth straight away.

If you could go back to earth, you wouldn't be lost :P

Like everyone else said, it's pointless. I'd rather go to mars, seems cooler

I can chill in space wit one of those spacemen outfits, u no, the ones dat give u oxygen...and ill jus chill around for like a year or so. Probably float my way away from earth, den eventually die, where no man has ever been.

The oxygen will eventually run out you know. :P
And how are you suppost to eat, drink and go to the toilet in one of them suits?

Japan will create a outfit that gives you oxygen which never ends, always recycles, feeds you, allows you to excrete, and also gives you water, all in space. Sometime in the future, mark my word.

Technically impossible unless somehow they manage to get food to recycle.

Japanese ppl r well smart, trust lol. WHat theyll do is recyle the excrete, so that its purified, and take out the liquid from it, then there you have it, more food and water..lol.

Get me into space, providing I don't hit something I have enough power ;)

Not going to happen. As said, they'll just send a drone.
Doubt it'd be possible to send a miniature settlement into space for a good while anyway.
