It's a gradient.
You then take a screenshot of the gradient, that's 1 pixel wide.
if you want a gradient, save it so the image is 1pixel wide and x pixels in height (obviously the height of the thing you want it for) then put repeat-x
i think anyway
:job2

I dont think you have to tell it to repeat it just does it automaticly

You just enter
url(./dfdfd/abc.gif); into the area you want the gradient to appear nothing else :) You dont have to have it 1 pixel in width its just most people do to stop others from stealing it though a print screen will do the same thing so the width thing doesnt mean you have too..

Too add onto hollywoods post
You can't make a gradient in admin CP but you can in like photoshop, fireworks etc.
Make the gradient in one of those programs, then save it ( the size doesn't need to be big.)
Upload the gradient picture either onto your server or upload it to imageshack, then put it in the correct section.
example url(www.imageshack.us/etc (http://www.imageshack.us/etc))
done

ERMMM whats the difference between what we posted and what you posted other than saying making it in photoshop.
also, i said 'i think'
plus, you have to put repeat-x if you dont want it repeating down aswell.
i do it 1px width because it saves on space and loads faster

Yes what you're describing is called a gradient.
Free programs like GIMPshop support these if you want to make one.

url(IMAGESHACK); where the text says "IMAGESHACK" enter your own url.
Do a gradient in photoshop. Save it and upload it to your cpanel. Put url(your url here) repeat-x
