I'll second that, I had never really watched any other anime until I'd seen that and well, I was amazed :).

Id have to say death note although good, pales in comparison to NGE.

Meh, althogh bleach / naruto being the most mainstream often get quite a bit of stick, they have some really good story arks in there. The real problem is the huge amount of filler that gets stuffed in between the decent content so as not to overtake there manger equivlents.
