I guess I'd count myself lucky here, because a lot of my friends have no idea/strong ambitions about what career they want to go into..

I actually have two careers that I want to go into - and I can't choose between them..
(I'm only 15, but I really feel that I need to start worrying about it)

I want to go into airline piloting and structural engineering (aerospace engineering doesn't really interest me, so I can't combine them, lol)

They both really interest me, I doubt there's a way of doing both..
which one is probably more worthwhile?
I hear there's little demand for pilots at the moment, and it's extremely expensive to get into seeing that you have to pay for your own training and most airlines now want you to get a 4 year degree... (Which I want to do, but combining that with training costs = $$$$)

thanks for any help :}

I would do both loll

I want to be in the army, and be a chef/something in computering

But it your choice, maybe do both? heck who cares, but if it too much, choose the other option, but, all job will be hard. no matter what ;D

I don't know how I could do both though.. or even if I would want to.. I just want to get settled into one career.
some days I want to go into engineering, others aviation - I don't prefer one over the other and it's so frustrating, lol.

and yeah, my mum suggested that I joined the air force if I wanted to become a pilot, but I don't think it's for me..

I just don't think that I'd be willing to give my life for my country, call me selfish - if it came down to that.

I guess, i'm just not sure, though, lol.

and I guess that I don't really know that much about piloting and engineering... they just both really fascinate me, i've wanted to be a pilot since I was tiny - I just have a gut feeling that one of these is for me..

we don't have GCSEs in the U.S..
I really think that I need to worry about it though, my age may be decieving - seeing as in the U.S. we graduate when we're 18..

BUT...
I'm a year ahead of myself, I'm the youngest in the year, I got moved up... hopefully - i'll be graduating, early (i'm taking extra classes, 1 before school and 1 through lunch - i'm determined to get out early!), next year, at 16.., 2 years before i'm meant to, that's why i'm worrying, lol.

I don't really know how to get there though, i've heard that it's expensive.

I agree with your mum, why don't you join the Air Force? It's not like front line fighting. Of course there is a risk, but isn't there with everything?! Your pilot training would be paid for then and ex-Military pilots are very valued in many careers involving aviation so it's a bonus there too.

ehhh, i had my whole career plan sorted and now, god knows.
don't get too settled on something though, cause i thought i'd never change my mind; i got to college & i hated what i thought i'd love.

yeah i was fully into it, i was booked into course for things for 2010, it was manic thought i'd love it & i hated it. and it was everything theatre orientated. i've had 14 years of stage school to find out that actually, i hate doing the old routine. aha.

You are fifteen, even if you intend on graduating early you still should not be worrying, planning maybe, but certainly not worrying about something such as a career.

Piloting airliners is a big deal. I am not sure if there are any age restrictions in the U.S, but I would look into getting a few lessons towards a pilots license. Be sure that you want to pilot a normal plane first before you jump into a commercial plane.

Structural Engineering requires physics and advanced mathamatics alongside the engineering parts, and will probably require even more training than pilotting, but ultimately it will lead to a broader choice of career paths.

Hmm... Just got a phone call and lost the thread of my thoughts so I shall leave you with what I have already written - It sounds fairly complete anyway.

Just try not to worry too much whilst you are still young.

you really don't. its great if you have a passion and know what you want to do, but you shouldn't force yourself to choose what you want for the rest of your life. there are many people who don't have any direction until their third year of college. college is where you find out most about yourself and where there are many opportunities to study or try something you never have.

anyways, my plan is to become a music journalist, mhmm, or any type of journalist really.

I'm old enough to take lessons, money is the problem.. at about $125-$150 per hour. I don't have a job at the moment but hopefully i'll be getting one soon (I just need to get my social security number), and even then - i'll be working on minimum wage and still strapped for cash. But, maybe I will try and save up a little and try and get a PPL when I turn 17. That would be cool.

I like the idea of how engineering will open up many different paths, i've been told so many times now to always have something to back up your career, with piloting... I feel that this might be a little tough.

I like to tell myself that I don't, but I just can't get it out of my head... i'm always afraid that I won't take the right classes in HS now, etc. etc. (I want to go to NYU... ideally, I was reading on their website that they not only pick people on their GPA and test scores, but on the classes they chose in HS..)

Metric.

I will work at the same place for the rest of my like (hopefully)

oh, you're misunderstanding it. what they mean by the classes you choose is if they are challenging or not. Say you took Marine Biology in high school, they don't care if you actually want to be a marine biologist, they just like to see if you're challenging yourself and taking a wide variety of classes. also if you're taking AP or Honors classes. if you're taking only required classes and the rest of your time is filled with study halls, they don't like that.

i just went through all this college stuff, haha, its a huge relief to get it over with.

oooh - ok then!

I'm going to try to take honors next year, I got pretty good grades this semester, so maybe it's a possibility..

oh, and I didn't do too well in my freshman year because I came in in the middle of the last semester, because I moved from the UK, and I found the work pretty confusing.. so my grades were pretty bad, I didn't fail anything but I did get a C- in biology and a D+ in math; I know I can definitely do better than this, do you think it's worth re-taking those classes?
