I am Visa, the Operations Director (COO) of Smooth Stone Park...
A brand new MMOCC coming to a screen near you.
http://www.smoothstonepark.net/Avatar-Preview.gif
Avatar Preview - it's a secret for now!
What is Smooth Stone Park?
Smooth Stone Park is a brand new MMOCC based around an outdoor theme, using some new...and some old ideas from within the MMOCC market.
http://pixel-village.co.uk/Lamp.gif
Why is SSP different to any other MMOCC?
The real answer is...it's not, apart from it's based on an outside theme. Many MMOCCs reveal their plans however never get a client up and running. I s'pose that's what makes us different ; )
http://pixel-village.co.uk/Lamp.gif
How far in development is SSP?
We are pleased to say that SSP has started within client/server development. A coder has been employed, along with a few experienced pixel artists, producing brilliant work so far!
http://pixel-village.co.uk/Lamp.gif
When can we see SSP?
Ahh..your going to have to wait for the client, however we plan on launching our website within the next couple of weeks (or less!), and opening out community forums within a week...or so. We don't like to set deadlines because that applies pressure to all onboard, which can (and will) lead to problems - better safe than sorry.
http://pixel-village.co.uk/Lamp.gif
Sounds good so far, so how can I get involved?
The good news is we are looking to employ some staff to join the pre-release development of Smooth Stone Park. Please head on over to www.smoothstonepark.net (http://www.smoothstonepark.net) to apply for a position.
Please note: we are still developing the application process, and more positions will be open soon.
We wouldn't make a release like this if we didn't have anything to show, and that is why we have been very kind in showing you a preview of Smooth Stone Park!

Your feedback is welcome, however it would be much appreciated if the thread could be kept on-topic.

: o I hope you don't think it’s a fail. We thought there might be some of this feedback, however we aren’t sure how to prove to you that we are not going to fail, until we have a client...I suppose you will have to wait and see!
Hello there ‘Golden Merc’. A CEO is Chief Executive Officer; however my position is within the Operational side of things, therefore Chief Operations Officer.

Its 'GoldenMerc' no space? you see spaces ? no
Why are there so many **** MMOCC's now days there nothing although Habbo + runescape have poor graphics they were oviously one of the first have a PROFFESIONAL
Advertising manager ect..
Visa!
28-12-2007, 04:32 PM
You are right 'GoldenMerc', there are alot of MMOCCs around now adays. There are many professional ones out there, however they may not have an office etc.
Lets not judge by what we don't see :)

You need to have staff,MONEY,Good graphics to even think about making a MMOCC
Persnally
You dont stand a chance out there

I am not the owner of this project just to state. I can assure you that we are building a very strong team behind the scenes. I have been employeed by the owner to deal with that sort of thing.
The funding side of things is no problem from what I can understand, and the graphics I have seen look very promising!

As I said on MMOCC forum.
'Its not the most original thing in the world your using all of the same features that other MMOCCs do. Do you honestly think people are going to leave well developed MMOCCs like Habbo Hotel where they have all their furniture to play yours? Its like coke music, its free and has loads of games etc but its so similar to habbo it has hardly any users.'
Visa!
28-12-2007, 04:46 PM
I was linked to the thread on MMOCCForum.com by the owner of the project, and there was some mixed messages within the thread. I did read yours indeed, and on some points I agree with you, but on others I do not.
It may not be that original however nor is CokeMusic, Starchat etc. They compete with Habbo Hotel, the leader of the MMOCC market, but they still make a nice sum.
It all depends on how far you want to go. Thanks for your feedback!

Can i ask how much money you have behind this project?
Visa!
28-12-2007, 04:52 PM
I will have to ask the owner that. If things develop well, I may be putting some of my own money into the project.
I will get back to you on that one.

Cokemusic and starchat are properly funded and professionally made, however even then their chunck of the MMOCC market that they have is relatively small.
GoldenMerc
28-12-2007, 05:19 PM
Cokemusic is owned by Sulake now ?
Well it used to be i think :S
Anyways yes but that was some time ago when there was many little MMOCC compared to now theres loads and loads out there.
It seems professional to me?
However, i do think it will be a fail i'm afraid. Nothing can beat these major games such as Habbo and Runescape. However i wish you the best of luck with this game. :)

Sorry, i don't see this being as successful as Bittybay.
Visa!
28-12-2007, 05:56 PM
Thanks for the feedback XP. Its not about trying to beat other MMOCCs, its about making a place within the MMOCC market. Habbo make millions, however I am sure the owner would be happy if he made £10,000. Everyone has different goals, it just depends on how you look at things.
Falcon, I can not express my opinion about the success of Bittybay in public, as members may think it was the opinion of SSP and not my personal opinion. It would be unprofessional of me to comment.

why do people advertise these kind of things just as development takes place? come back to advertise when your client is up and running, otherwise it's useless. if your staff are good enough with marketing, project running and management skills, they will have all the ideas you need to run a successful business and ideas.
I don't recall hundreds of posts / threads on bitty bay prior to its release, thats why when I went onto the site, I wanted to sign in and check it out because I'd not previously seen previews etc.
Obviously you can't comment on Bitty Bay, because it's a working client, and its running and yours is erm......
Cokemusic is owned by Sulake now ?
Well it used to be i think :S
Anyways yes but that was some time ago when there was many little MMOCC compared to now theres loads and loads out there.
Sulake made it and sold it to them I think. :S

Wow you guys are really harsh. I saw this advertised on MMOCCF and like I said there, I wish you guys the best of luck.
For your information you do not need huge amounts of money to start a MMOCC, just the correct knowledge. Also someone commented that this will not be as popular as BittyBay, BB is not very popular at all. They should market it at the correct age range, eight year olds, not teenagers.

Hello there Invent,
Thank you for your interest. We currently have someone making us a site, however I will put your name forward to the owner incase the other coder/designer fails. If you could email me your MSN, that would be handy.

You messaged me on MSN asking me to run this with you. You won't get anywhere due to the fact there is already a new comer which everyone has clung onto - 'BittyBay'. SmoothStonePark isn't even a good name.

I havent even been on bittybay but never the less i think to get into the market you need to have a better system than the current ones, So more things than say cokemusic thats not such a high target rly well it is but if you want to succed thats who you need to contest agaist.
Im sorry i may not have any kindness but im just trying to tell you that you need to put yourself out there in the market at your best.

Hello folks,
I said I would not say it, however I am. Bittybay is not a success - I would not call 25 users at a time a success. I have my personal thoughts about it, and others have their opinions.
Lets keep this about the project, and not comparing it to other MMOCCs.

Looking at the source code brought that up.
Can you tell me how long this client has been in the process of getting created?

Hello there FOSTERS :)
The client has been in development for a little while (not sure of the exact time, I will have to ask the owner) however I have seen some of it and it looks brill. I am not doubting the ability of the coders, as I have also seen a nice little shop system (not for this game).
More information will be released when I see fit.

Visa!
29-12-2007, 10:42 AM
They may look a bit like BB, however we could say that every other mmocc has art like Habbo ;)
The reason we are advertising it this early to develop a knowledge of the mmocc in development, to build a strong team and to attract a community to our website/forums.

We arent going to say, oh wow sounds great if we dont think it. We on this forum are completely honest we dont hide what we think. You ask us to give opinions on the project and then when we do you say they are wrong, sounds like someone cant take feedback to me.
Best of Luck,
I know its tough getting a client made when so many people under estimate your abilites .
I have a idea guys!
How about everyone here who has baddly posted agaisnt Visa! go make a client oh thats right it would probably fail see?
At least he is making an effort.

Here's how MMOCCForum works. They are all in the same boat as you so they can't say "FAIL" as that means theirs is likely too as well. So they have to lie to keep their hopes and dreams alive.
MMOCC's only work if you have the time, money and work force. BittyBay is the most recent new comer to get anywhere. However they don't have the money to get the game into the eye's of the world. You need hundreds of thousands of pounds to launch a successful marketing plan. Word of mouth is obviously and always will be the best way to market something. However it's not the quickest. Places such as MySpace first started with "word of mouth" marketing and that took them 3 or 4 years to hit the big time. If you want to make it a success I suggest the following;
1. Change the name, it's too long and the smooth bit I don't get. Are all the stone's smooth in this park? Only good thing about the name is it's initials are SSP which is Scottish Socialist Party :)
2. Get an amazing team of staff (paid if possible) to get the site and client moving.
3. Generate enough cash to get it out into the main stream WWW.

Yeah it's something like that, I was once told a lot larger. Around the £15,000 to £20,000 mark. UK laws anyway, other countries will obviously be different.
