Hi,

I'm planning to develop a small social networking site (by myself) in my own time which will feature the technology I have developed for my Habbo Homes system and my private project called 'mySpot'.

As you may already know, I really, REALLY suck at site names, so I need some help with naming the site :P

If you have any good ideas of what I could call the website then please post in this thread.

Here's bit more information to help you think of a name for the site:

The site is going to be very myspace-esque where users can create their own space/profile on their site, add friends, add/del/edit content on their profile, re-skin their profile and much more.

It might also feature some of the ideas from Facebook such as groups.
Thanks!
-Simon

Why not stick with MySpot?

Many people didn't like the name mySpot and it could also create problems with copyright and trademarks.

What happened to the other one?

And why do you normally slate the people who say they are gonna make one? What makes you any better?

The other project was destined to fail as I was working with Caleb - I don't work well in partners.

Find me a time when I've slated someone and I'll explain why I did. :)

I've just emptied my inbox. Feel free to re-send me a message :) (I'll message you my email now).

P.S: Could I please remind you that this is a personal project and I'm not currently hiring staff, etc. I've already had around 5 messages about people wanting to help me run it/set it up :P.

CMS? If you mean YANS, I never finished itas I was told not to by this Forum :)

And I find radio panels exceptionally boring so I've quit making public panels for the moment.

Did offer you the chance to build one with myself which was paid work. You turned it down however. It also would mean we'd have a greater chance getting it launched as we have the finacial and experienced backing of one of the UK's leading young business men...

I personally prefer to run and develop the site myself rather than develop a system for another company/website to use.

You'd be the CSO of the company, which means you'd be paid a salary once the site was released also.

I understand but as I've said earlier in the thread I don't work well in a team over the internet.

If we had regular meetings in real life then I might have been open to negotiation, but as we can't do that I don't think it would work for me. (The development and running of the site).

Simon, as you quite rightly say -

This will fail.
You need a team of well working staff, people who can listen to ideas,
work well with the team.

You have none of them.

I'm sorry, but this is a fail tbh.
No staff, only a naive person leading it.

I never, ever, ever say fail seriously. I'd like to point that out :)
I'd also like to point out I'm only creating the system, I don't need a team of staff to do that?

If I want to actually set up the site, establish it well and get a good user base then yes of course I will compile a team together in my local area.

What about every project which was meant to open, but didn't?
That's failure. Look at a dictionary. :)

What are you on about? I'm saying I never say "fail" (seriously) to a project or a person before they finish a project. I only every say a project is destined to fail if the person who wants to do the project doesn't have any idea of what is required to complete the project.

Well, we are obviously not planning to continuely work via the internet as a team. Once the site opens to the public or maybe even a couple of months previous we'd be holding meetings. They'd be in Liverpool at Eric's offices.
