Ok I've remade this thread please don't close it.
This time I have included a Poll.
"I think members should be allowed to create threads in the debates section but they will be reviewed by someone before they are visible to other members?
Instead of being stuck with threads made by the same few people."
I think the debates created should not include forum related debates - This would include the rep issue.

I agree, but it has been suggested before. The answer from 'guess who' made no sense and was obviously avoiding the hassle.

Yeah I know, I Did say that in the first line :)
Plus the poll will give better results for people who can't be bothered to reply and plus when it's like 17+vs1...

It's needed to be honest, the debates forum needs more input.

I did say i would like to see a sub-forum for debates from members and then the real debates being moved to the serious forum.

It is a yes and no for me. Yes - this is a great idea however having a smaller number of debates is better as they are concentrated on, there is no point having large numbers of debates, that is why at the moment we only have one of two created at a time. At the moment if you have an idea of a debate we are more than willing to listen via this thread: http://habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=125798
I agree it is a nice idea but I think suggesting debates and having staff add them is a better idea. This isn't because I've been adding them recently, it is because I feel that a large amount of debates would not be as good as a couple of debates and if everyone had the opportunity to just create them the forum would end up being filled with too many debates that wouldn't be debates as they wouldn't be concentrated on. Simply by having 1 or 2 per month you can see that they get quite a large amount of attention. When adding debates most of the ideas for them come from the debates ideas thread from members so if you have a really good idea for a debate I can't see a reason you couldn't just post it there? Having too many debates would just ruin the point of the forum which is to have large number of members debating a few subjects, too many subjects mean that it is difficult to get good debates going.
I can see what you are saying and your idea in theory is good however I think it is much simpler for members just to post ideas of debates in which case they are considered and then added if appropriate and this ensures only good debates are added and the debates added are not offence and are appropriate and also it ensure that they will be concentrated on by those who use the debate forum and there will be some good debates in there all the time. As I've said if we just open the forum up it means that there would be simply too many debates and they wouldn't all get decent replies and therefore making the debating less effective in my opinion. :)
I think that jrh2002's idea is quite good to have a forum in which members can create debates and good ones can be put in the main for or successful ones members post in the sub forum could be moved to the main forum, quite possibly a nice idea and it could well work. I can't see a problem with that however I don't agree that the main debates forums would be opened up to members however having a sub forum wouldn't be a bad idea.

Id disagree, with a public forum a large number of debates are created, many people enter them, interesting active ones rise to the top, useless and boaring ones sink. Forums are self regulating by design.
Currently we instead just have a load of boring uninteresting debates that would in a public forum be long fallen from the front page.
It by no means focus attention on a single debate, it just prohibits any good ones.

Its been a Long long time since ive seen a good debate on habbox. Years (Literally) in fact.
If there's anything in that forum you would call a decent debate, you assuredly have never actually seen what a proper one looks like.

Just posting threads and letting people discuss is substantially simpler than the pointless process in place now. Good debates are on interesting controversial issues.
Go to any forum on the web almost, the forum approach and usage of the mediums self regulating property's has been a success Everywhere its been used. Hell it was even successful on habbox back when we had it? (if you've been here long enough to know)
My personal opinion is a normal, open forum. Where anyone can create any thread on a debate topic they like. Is by far the best way for a debates forum to work.
Good debates get many reply's, hence stay at the top of the first page.
Bad debates get fewer reply's, hence sink and leave the front page.
That is infact how forums were designed to work, and work they do.
There are more debates to choose from, people who may not in interested in one issue, may be very much more interested in another. This way everyone can have a good debate. Not just people who are interested in the 1 or 2 topics chosen by a single member.
If something interesting comes up, people can immediately dive in to it, instead of waiting a month with it sitting in a suggestion forum.
This approach works on almost every other forum on the internet. It even worked here back when we had it. The current system does not work. There are rarely any interesting debates, nore any worthwhile discussion.
The current approach also wrongly assumes debates have ends, if you seriously think you can have a debate about god and come to a conclusion, your sadly mistaken. Many of the most interesting and active debates are ones that dont have any set end. Setting them an end is foolish. Debates should go on as long as they remain popular. As would happen in an open forum by default i might add.
