Howell, a Scottsdale, Ariz., man who kept a collection of about 2,000 music recordings on his personal computer, the industry maintains that it is illegal for someone who has legally purchased a CD to transfer that music into his computer.

Law people epically fail

So now you have to separately pay for music you have on cds and the music on your comp for it to be legal? That's just pathetic and I doubt anyone will abide by it.

music that is put from cd's, or downloaded illegally, is illegal, yes. but over here the government have better things to be doing than care about silly things like that.

So then in theory, Apple is breaking a US law by allowing people to transfer music onto their computer, so is every computer sold as they all contain Windows Media Player (apart from the very new ones which aren't allowed to have it I believe).

American's need to sort it out :P

not really, music can be bought direct from stores on both media players mentioned, they are breaking an US/UK law by giving the option to transfer music from cd's onto them

Well the programs themselves break the laws, even if you can purchase music from stores inside them, as they both offer the facility to import CDs.
