Hi
Well im in year 9 and at the end of this year we pick options. But im confused about some things..
What can I pick out of, I mean could I drop everything apart from maths english n science? (not that i would). How many choices is the minimum I can pick? What lessons must I stay with?
Lol sorry for all the questions but im very intrested :)
Thanks,
ToxicPaddy
You have to stay with English Maths and Science (but depending if your from a religious school, RE aswell) and you can choose either 3 or 4 (depending if your doing RE) extra subjects, but you can't drop any unfortunately

You keep maths english and science and as my school did
We kept IT , and Pe and RE as a short course, other than that, you pick from your options when you recieve them, it's no good asking us anyway as all schools systems' work differently. Ask your Tutor, Head of year, or the Headteacher for advice. And then perhaps speak to a careers advisor to help you decide with your options.
It all depends on the school. Don't worry yet, its best to choose last minute, because if you know there is a subject you are going to drop, you will naturally stop working hard in it. So keep your options open.
In my school it was compulsary ENG, SCI, MAT, RE with one Creative choice, (I did Music), one language (Spanish), one humanity (Geography) and one free choice (Food Tech) but it really does depend on the school! And the timetable as to whether it will fit in!

Right.
I had Maths, English, Science, PE and Personal Development compulsory.
Then I had 4 more subject choices. I had to pick a Design/Technology/Art subject because it was a specailist college, so I picked IT.
Becuase I chose 'Triple Science' option, so Physics, Chemistry and Biology I had a choice taken away.
Because I had to do A-Level French I had another choice taken away.
So I picked a subject I was good at and thought could help me, Geography :)

I had to do Maths, English, Science, RE (short course), PSHE, Applied ICT and a technology.
Then I got to pick 3 subjects one of which had to be a language or an applied.
Our school had a day where they interviewed us all and told us what we could drop etc, maybe yours will too? Anyway just talk to your head of year or something ;]

I only had to take Eng, Maths, Science (Double Award), RE shortcourse and, PE
aswell as taking these i could pick any 4 subjects
i chose:
Applied I.C.T
Business Studies
Art
Graphics
I.C.T - basically write the same pieces of coursework over and over but change a few words
Business Studies - the easiest subject i have taken and it is a good choice, it may be boring but its very easy to pass
Art - basically draw pages each lesson on a certain subject ( quite easy to pass this subject)
Graphics - variety of different drawing styles eg: houses you also decorate things like coke cans and make things out of paper. (again very easy to pass)
i hope my post has helped you in someway but of course all schools are different

just one thing, if you don't know what to do with an extra choice or something and you've picked all you wanted
DO NOT pick something for the sake of it, have a good think about what would help you most in the future and maybe help you in the sort of job you'd like to do.
ben's absolutley right,
NEVER ever, pick something that you think will be easy either.
you WILL regret it for years to come.

i picked music because i thought it was easy
oh, how i was wrong.
lol i did the same with food tech.
i was wrong.
so then i revised loads, which made me get an A*, but it was so much *Text Removed* work, it compromised other grades tbh

What I would like to do is (apart from English maths and science)
ICT
Geography
French
not sure on any others but im sure on the 3 above.
I would like to start Italian and get better in German
The only reason im bad at german is because I started that school a year late cause its a grammar school so I re-took the test, and they all done german a year before be so I started when they all knew a bit of it already and me knowing nothing of it.

I picked Science, GCSE PE and Construstion and we had to keep IT, Maths and Normal Science.
I wish I didn't choose construstion as all we did for two years was mess around in the college. (we had to go to the college round the corner to do it)

You pick them in year 9 and do them in year 10 and 11.

You'll get a letter or meeting about it?
Anyway at our school it is:
Maths, English, Science, RE, PSHE, PE, IT & Tech.(You choose which DT course), which is compulsory.
Then we have 3 choices (or 2 if the course is worth 2 GCSEs)

How can you do GCSE P.E?
You didn't have to do it at GCSE at my school, but you have to do at least 1 hour a week - its the law. P.E is a GCSE subject - there is theory involved though.
