Radiohead have topped the US album charts with the physical release of In Rainbows, originally sold via the internet for a price chosen by fans.
The album sold 122,000 copies during its first week, displacing soul singer Mary J Blige from the number one spot. Hmm i think they shouldnt have the top spot. Oh well :(

They could pay what they wanted for the CD. Nothing from up to £100 I think.
And do we really need someone copy and pasting from the BBC all the time? At least post a link, and if we wanted something like that the forum could install a BBC news bot onto the site.

I'd pay nothing, why would someone pay £100

So they sold 122,000 copies for nothing? :S That's the only way they'd get to number 1.

NO. The album was initially up for sale for nothing - £100. But now thats been taken down and its been released officially as a CD via normal distribution methods. Its been out ages on http://inrainbows.com but that promotions now over. So its off to iTunes for you suckers, or of course you favourite *other* download methods :]
Besides though, I don't even like the album :/

you guyz is so dumbbbbb
they self-released the album in october on their website, and people could type in a price for the album and pay however much they wanted. it was all an experiment, they wanted to see how much people think cd's are worth. and quite a large amount of people actually chose to pay for the album. Jay-Z payed $50. and if any of you saw those "this year in music" thing that artists did on myspace, about half of them had in rainbows on their list, which includes paramore, lupe fiasco, and as i lay dying. weird, eh?
you don't have to like it, but it's not boring, you just don't understand it.

they've been to #1 before with kid a. as a matter of fact, their past 4 albums have made it into the top 3.
Same here. I feel abit guilty because it's amazing.
i've never really been into radiohead before, but, some of the songs from this album are really growing on me.

If the music is good enough, people would buy it. I think was the motto they had, ;o
Its an awesome album.
15 Step is amazing, me and my alevel music class are in love with it.
Ive always loved Radiohead, althought OK Computer is still the best album in my opinion.

I'm not being cocky, as you said I'm voicing my opinion which everyone has a right to :) I'm sure others have posted about it, but I won't go and search for it but that's just pointless, and I'm posting it in a mature manner in my opinion, at least I'm not going "OMG Y U COPY AND PASTIN I CAN READ BBC NEWS U KNO LOLL!111`shift"
:) Plus how does voicing my opinion make me 'messed up' and why would reading a book help?

well they know how solid and loyal their fanbase is. lots of people were bound to pay something. plus, there was the boxset, which i got. i actually paid for the $81 boxset and the regular cd as well.
they make most of their money touring anyway.
