It appears that no matter how often I see more and more people come out, and no matter how often it is said that it is now socially acceptable to be LGBT straight people are just really not accepting?

Maybe its still quite a new thing? I mean being LGBT was a Psychological Disorder untill the mid 1970's.

Gay people were given "treatment" to help "cure" them of their "disease". This involved being locked in a room with homosexual pornography was a matter of weeks and given vomit inducing drugs. The idea being that if your sick whilst looking at the pornography then you will associate that as a "sick" thing in your mind and suddenly turn straight.

But as you can tell, if mucked up a lot of peoples lives and mental health.

This was only 30 years ago! Maybe its just not accepted yet? I seem to find lots of gay jokes aimed at me at school. And I feel quite alone and isolated. Im currently the only out person in the year (This is year 12) and well not many people seem to be able to empathise. What do you think?

Even though it has only been 40 years since the first changes for homosexual equality, there has been quite a lot of change in equality and its continuing to increase as time progresses. A majority no longer value it as a proper issue anymore because the homosexualiy is classed as a part of our values and ideologies, although there is still some discrimination (from alternative outlooks (e.g. The media tabloids, The Sun etc.) against those who still feel insecure and see there is an issue feel rejeted and unwelcome in a non physical way.

Well I'm straight, and if any of my freinds came out as gay, they would still be my freind. I choose my freinds for their personalities, not their sexual preference.

People say it's accepted, and in someways it is.
But if you see a boy and girl kissing on the street, no1 cares
If same sex did, everyone would be staring.
So in some ways it's accepted, but not the way people would fully want it to be

TBH it depends where you live, theres this kid in year below me, he came out lsat year in year 9, First he got the mick taken out of him, but he still gets the odd bit here and there, A 6th former is gay too, and he gets picked on aswell.

Not only that, but if your popular anyway, people dont care as much?
And dont you think its easier for girls to come out as it turns straight people on, but not gay people.

Yeh I think its a half and half thing, like yes we have deffinatley moved on, but still theres some tension. I think stereotypes and lack of empathy are a huge issue.

It's improved I'll grant you that, people don't publicly 'Beat them up' as much or show hatred towards Homosexuality in general. But I think the majority of people still have the same views, you only need to get talking to people and you'll find out. It's a bit more secretive now but I think a lot of people are yet to accept it.

Yeh I think your right, due to it becoming more acceptable were actually finding a lot of closet homophobes. which is ironic.

I agree it is more open then before but it still has a long way to go when its really "acceptable" will be when the younger generation 9-12 are late teens, why? as they'll live to know about it properlly currently the grandparents werent allowed to know about g&l as it werent allowed thus telling their grandchildren the same leaving a dirty expression on them about g&l.

That's not true as I know a girl in my school who is bisexual and everyone just sees her as a freak :(

Definitely. Two guys can walk down the street holding hands and not get thrown into prison.

Most people accept it, it's just the idiots who are backwards who don't.
