A boy of 5 was badly beaten, throttled and kicked 200 yards from his home in Chickenley, Dewsbury, West Yorks.

5 year old Anthony Hinchliffe is still gripped by fear after a brutal attack made by a group of children attempting to hang him from a tree 200 yard's from his house, in a wooded area known to resident's as the 'Devil's Ditch'. Terry, Anthony's mother, has told newspaper 'Daily Mirror', "Last night Anthony couldn't get to sleep until 2 o'clock...then he had these terrible nightmares."

Anthony was playing in his back garden with his sister, Chloe whilst his mother was inside with baby girl of 18 months, Michaela. He was believed to have been lured away from his back garden, by a group of what the police believe to be 8 teenagers aged 12, had a noose placed around his neck and dragged kicking and screaming into the 'Devil's Ditch'. There the gang were believed to have planned to hang little Anthony from a tree. They allegedly gave up when they couldn't attach the rope properly. Terry's cousing, Tracey was believed to have found Anhtony in a horrific sighting by a shop near where she lived. She said: "Anthony stood in front of me crying. But he was a different boy now. He just said 'Boys and girls' and lifted his head to show the marks on his neck. His neck was puffed out and there were deep, bright red marks all round it as if he were bleeding - but he wasn't. His arms were scratched all over. He was in shock and talking mumbo-jumbo. He couldn't put his words together and wasn't making any sense. He was so upset." Anthony's eye was bloodshot from blood vessels in his neck bursting as he was allegedly throttled. His private parts were black and blue form being repeatedly kicked.

Last night his father, Mark was taken into hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack. But fortunately it was a panic attack brought on by the hell of the past few days and he returned to his family and helped look after Anthony."

Two girls and three boys were first questioned over the attack near Earlsheaton Park, Dewsbury and later discharged. A girl of 12 was charged last night with grievous bodily harm and attempting to pervert justice. For the time being, The police are looking for anyone else who has connections with the incident.

This happened to a 5 year old boy. This shows that there are people out there willing to do anything they wish. They should be stopped immediately from doing this to another child. Anthony was lucky to escape with scars, which will eventually heal. But with these attackers still out there no child is safe. If you have anything, any information that can help the police find the people who did this, you can stop this from happening to another lovely little child like Anthony. This may seem scary and frightening to you, but just think what little Anthony is going through. Waking up at 7 o'clock in the morning crying into his mother's arm's asking her to make it all go away..... Please if you know ANYTHING contact your local police station as soon as you can.
